“Liz, do you mind helping Max catch up on anything he hasn’t covered?” Mrs.
Behr asked from the front of the room.

“No Ma’am I wouldn’t.” Liz said looking up from her book.

Max made his way towards the back of the room quietly.

“So I take it you’re very good at Biology?” He asked trying to make
conversation.

“Yeah, I guess I am. So are you really going to go to the rave? I mean I
know your dad is the new sheriff so I was just curious.” She finished
lamely. She didn’t know what it was about him that made her feel so nervous
and calm and… whole. She had never had a problem handling guys, ever. She
had never worried on whether or not they’d like her or her outfit because it
didn’t really matter, but now it felt that if he didn’t like it then it
really would matter.

“If I can find my way to the rave then yes, I’ll be there.” He said, and it
was true. He really didn’t know his way around town yet; but then again he
had only been here for two days.

“Well, we could always show you.” Liz said shyly. What was wrong with her?
She was never shy around normal guys; but then again he didn’t feel like a
normal guy.

“You might have to.” He said smiling at her.

“Well, I’ll tell you what. Why don’t you talk to Michael and have him give
you directions to our house, and Friday night you three can come over, and
we’ll all go to the party together?” Liz suggested.

“I have a group project for you to do. You will break off in pairs of two.
This is due in two months. It’s worth 200 points. I suggest you get it
started soon. You’ll have to have a full report a board and an example of
your experiment on display. You can do it on anything, but make sure you
have that example experiment there.” She said addressing everyone in the
class.

The entire class moaned and groaned through the speech.

“Would you like to be my partner?” Pam Troy asked as she whirled around in
her seat to face Max.

“I…” Max began to try and make an excuse he wanted to ask Liz, but he didn’t
have to because he was interrupted quickly by Liz herself.

“Pam, I’m sorry, but he wants to make a good grade on this assignment. He’s
my partner.” Liz looked over at Max and smiled.

Max didn’t know what was going on and he didn’t care. When she smiled at him
it made feel as though his entire body had melted, and it felt good.

Pam Troy turned around in a huff.

“I hate that girl.” Liz whispered into Max’s ear.

For some reason he couldn’t picture this beauty hating anyone, ever.

“So how about you come over tonight? We can get started on the project.” Liz
said resorting her things.

“I still don’t know where you live.” He said doing the same.

“You remember where the Crashdown is? You know when you came in yesterday.”
Liz asked looking up at him.

“Yeah.” He said looking back down at his notebook.

“Well just show up there after school.” She said jotting down something
quickly.

“Here’s my number if you get lost. It’s my cell phone.” She said passing him
her number.

“Ah, the only phone you can have privacy on I bet.” He said.

“Why do you say that?” Liz asked.

“Well, if I talk on my phone line Kyle sitting there yelling at me and
asking me who I’m talking to. If I use the home phone I have my parents to
deal with, and even sometimes when I use the cell phone I have Maria ragging
on me because she wants to use it.” He said explaining himself.

“So out of both of your siblings who do you fight with more?” Liz asked.

“Maria, definitely Maria. She’s the violent one of us all.” Max said smiling
at the thought of he and his sister’s numerous fights.

“Listen, I don’t care what you think, OK? I highly doubt you even do think!”
Maria hissed back at Michael who was sitting right next to her. He was too
close for her liking. Every few seconds his hand would brush against hers or
he’d look at her and it felt as though her heart was running a marathon. She
didn’t like, and she liked it all too well.

“I don’t think? I’m not the one that came to school dressed as a banana on
speed, now am I?” Michael said quickly. They had been sitting there for what
seemed like forever. He couldn’t handle it anymore; her lip kept pouting in
concentration, or was that frustration? It didn’t matter, they had the
perfect tint to them and they looked… edible.

“Please! At least I know how to use a comb.” She threw back.

“Yeah, even if you do know how to it doesn’t look like you really applied
the knowledge.” He said in a low husky tone. What was it about this girl?

“Thanks for the insight Mr.
I-Stick-My-Finger-In-A-Light-Socket-Every-Morning.” Maria said her voice
changing a little, too.

“Any time.” Michael smirked over at her.

Maria turned to look at him in exasperation. She twisted her body all the
way around on the bench they shared so she could see his entire face. He
looked really good.

“I don’t even know you and I already hate you!” She seethed, anger vibrating
out from her in every direction.

Her lips were moving again. He couldn’t make out a single syllable so
instead of giving her an answer he kissed her.

At first she protested, but the feel of his tongue against hers was too much
for one girl, even an alien girl, to take. He tasted just right. His mouth
was scalding, but she didn’t mind because his taste was what she was really
paying attention to. He tasted too good to be true.

Sweet and spicy was an understatement for her. She was overwhelming. He knew
he wasn’t supposed to kiss her, but she just looked so tempting with her
fire green eyes and soft tasty lips, not to mention her body. This girl was
too good to be true.

There was a sudden unexpected volt of energy that burst between them;
startling them.

The door to the waiting room of the office opened as they broke a part.

“Mr. Valenti would like to see you now.” Said the polite young assistant.
“Go right in.”

Michael was the first off the bench and to the door. Maria quickly followed.

“I hate Romeo and Juliet.” Isabel slamming down beside Alex on the bench at
their usual table.

“You and me both.” Michael said angrily sitting down across from them.

“What’s a matter?” Liz asked worriedly as her and Tess came up to sit down
near Michael.

“I have detention tomorrow.” Michael said popping open his Cherry Cola.

“What’d you do now?” Alex asked popping open his can of Orange soda.

“Me? Oh, no it wasn’t my fault. I owe it all to that walking rainbow.”
Michael said glancing over at where Maria, Kyle and Max were sitting.

“What do you mean you have detention? It’s only the first day of school.”
Kyle said leaning an arm against his sister’s knees, which were pulled up
half way to her chest.

“Yeah, I mean you know mom and dad are under enough stress right now. Why
would you go off and do something like this?” Max asked looking down at his
sister, who was, of course, leaning her back against his shoulder and side.

“Not my fault Mighty Max. Blame it on the walking bad hair day over there.”
Maria said titling her chin over towards where Michael had sat down earlier.

“Think mom will go postal?” Maria asked her brothers.

“I hope not. I wanted you to go to the rave with us.” Max said looking over
where she had implied her newfound enemy was.

There she sat. Liz Parker. She was beautiful. She was looking at him!

Liz turned around quick. She had been caught. She started to blush and
prayed to god that no one noticed.

Her prayers were answered as her color returned and no one seemed the wiser.

“So are you still going to the rave with us Friday?” Tess asked Michael from
the other side of Liz.

“I wasn’t going in the first place.” Michael said looking over Liz’s head at
Tess’ blond one.

“You have to come. Alex is going and they roped the DeLuca guys into joining
us.” Isabel said trying to help her sister.

“I don’t rave.” Michael said not yielding.

“Neither do I, but guess what, If I have to go so do you.” Alex said firmly.

“Says who?” Michael asked.

“Us!” They all yelled in unison, they had learned there were strength in
numbers against Michael. If they all worked together he would cave.

“Fine I’ll go, but I won’t rave! I’ll stand.” He grumbled.

“So, I was thinking, maybe we should go check out the mall. You know to find
some new gear.” Tess said looking over at Isabel and then back to Liz.

Instantly Michael had a thought of them walking in little tiny tube tops
again. He was already dreading it.
