The Naishougoto

Chapter 1: The finding

In the depth of night, the air was still and slightly musky. Wild animals roamed silently in the almost perfect summer night.

"Naishougoto, wake up. We must move now!"

Naishougoto sat up, silently. Obeying her grandmother's every word. The hunters were again on their tails. She ran swiftly with her grandmother, through the forest. They made no noise, the two figures, as they ran through the trees. Her grandma guiding the way, and herself making them silent. The hunters wanted her, as she held a secret of her own.

Her grandma led her under a stone ledge. The lights and whirling blades of the helicopters scared Naishougoto and the two huddled closer together. Soon, the noise left and the two relaxed.

Naishougoto was a special child, that was why the military was after her. Not many possessed the power she did. About one in ten million. She had been in all the papers as the nameless child, but none really knew where she was. Large sums of money had been offered for the finding of her, but she had remained un-found. Naishougoto could make herself, or others, move silently, she could use little magic and some believed she could tell the future. She was born in the woods, as a secret from the people but her parents had to leave her, so she had grown up with her grandmother. The only thing her parents left her with, was the name. The name of Naishougoto. It meant 'a secret' in Japanese and fit quite well, giving her situation.

"Grandma," Naishougoto asked, "why do they all want to chase me?"

"Never mind dear," her grandma replied. But she knew it was about time Naishougoto learnt. It was her 12th birthday in two days, she ought to know. Grandma sighed. "You were born here, in this forest, twelve years ago in two days. You are the chosen one and, you possess the powers."

"The powers?" Naishougoto was curios.

"Yes, you can move things with your mind, do a little magic, and, see into the future."

Naishougoto thought about this. "How did I inherit these powers? How do I work them?"

"Your father was one who possessed the powers, you must find your own way to work them, discover them. Nobody can teach you."

Naishougoto stood up. "Excuse me, I must think about this alone."

"Be careful," her grandmother warned. Naishougoto walked away.

"Nai, what have you got?" she asked herself. Nai was the name she called herself, Naishougoto was too long. She stared at a rock. It was small, about the size of her fist, but she decided to try working out the moving thing. She stared at the rock, pictured it moving. Then, to her surprise, it flipped over. Nai was shocked. She started thinking, now it all cam together. The military, the running, the powers. She was special, and she knew it. She walked around a bit longer, making drops drip off trees, pebbles skim the waters edge. Then, she came to the small river. She made her way over some rocks and came to a little clearing. There were gems here, many gems in all different colors. Nai gasped, there were SO many, the most gemstones she had ever seen. She carefully selected a few and slipped them into her pocket. Then, she noticed the egg. A shiny, blue egg lay in a pile of gems. Nai made her way over to it and stroked it gently. Somehow, she could tell the creature inside was alive, and was alone with nobody to care for it. Then, she realized what she had done. The second power.

Nai picked up the egg. It was blue with a small symbol on it. Nai looked closer to see it was a picture of a fox head. She took it back to where her grandma was making grass beds.

"Grandma, look!" she held out the egg for her grandma too see. Her grandma gasped.

"Naishougoto, you really are special, it says the chosen one will encounter the egg." her grandma told her.

"And I can move objects now, and I could sense the egg was alive, and alone." Nai exclaimed.

"Naishougoto my girl, you really do have a gift, what will you name the creature that emerges from it?" her grandma replied.

"Well, the egg has a little fox on it, so I guess it will be Kitsune, Japanese for fox." Nai said. She looked at the egg. "Welcome, Kitsune."
