I started playing music in the mid 60's with a $2.00 'F' hole Kay guitar that had a crack in it. Later I joined my first band, Kenny & the Rest of Us, which performed Motown music. (I love that Motown Sound!)
During the late 60's and early 70's I played in FOXX, who performed a mix of covers and originals. I started singing lead because nobody else wanted to, although I had sang in church and school choirs while I was growing up in Middleport, Ohio. It was also during this time I got to record in the studio for the first time.
Later, in the band Lone Wolf, I played all the dives in Southern Ohio and West Virginia as we traveled around on our bus. Lone Wolf went through many lineup changes, and during this time I started playing some keyboards to fill in the sound.
I hooked up with a bunch of wild guys from Ravenswood, WV and we formed Bin Takin in the mid 80's. Bin Takin was one of the better bands I had played with and it led to playing on larger stages opening for larger and more established musicians like Steve Wariner (who is a great guitarist and a really nice guy!)
The last full band I played in was Renegade, who opened for Ricky Lynn Gregg and The Bellamy Brothers This also gave me a chance to play music with my bassist nephew, Jason Lisle.
When Renegade broke up, I hooked up with Kenny Koehler and we did a duo act for awhile. Kenny is one of the best all around guitaist in southern Ohio. |
