WELCOME to Astro * Logic Insights Monthly

Welcome to the new subscribers. First let me say  am feeling
fairly well ~ but nothing to brag about.  In a week or two and
John and I will be all alone for around 10 days as Juanita will
be in the hospital having a hysterectomy, so say a BIG prayer
for her to get well quickly. While you're at it, sneak one in for
us as well, I haven't been able cook since my last stroke and
John struggles along the best he can "between naps".

Ok, like the rest of you have heard that they are now saying
Pluto is no longer a planet [they meaning Astronomers, like
they know]  Anyway, here's what just came thru "Political
Waves".  As for me I refused to buy new books or change the
way I read charts - how about you guys?

______________________________________________

[PoliticalWaves] Pluto is not a planet...

And Bush is not a president ... and America is not
"a shining city on a hill"...but that hasn't changed
the effects of their influence.  I dunno -- I suppose
this isn't "all that" from a scientific point of view,
just more definition.  But I'm still miffed ... and it
won't be changing MY conversation anytime soon.
I suppose the only "winners" here are the
publishers of text books.

This is a good day for PFFFFFFT!

Astronomers say Pluto is not a planet
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060824/ap_on_sc/planet_mutiny

PRAGUE, Czech Republic - Leading astronomers
declared Thursday that Pluto is no longer a planet
under historic new guidelines that downsize the
solar system from nine planets to eight.

After a tumultuous week of clashing over the
essence of the cosmos, the International
Astronomical Union stripped Pluto of the planetary
status it has held since its discovery in 1930.

The new definition of what is — and isn't — a planet
fills a centuries-old black hole for scientists who
have labored since Copernicus without one.

Although astronomers applauded after the vote,
Jocelyn Bell Burnell — a specialist in neutron stars
from Northern Ireland who oversaw the proceedings
urged those who might be "quite disappointed" to
look on the bright side.

"It could be argued that we are creating an umbrella
called  'planet' under which the dwarf planets exist,"
she said, drawing laughter by waving a stuffed Pluto
of Walt Disney fame beneath a real umbrella.

The decision by the prestigious international group
spells out the basic tests that celestial objects will
have to meet before they can be considered for
admission to the elite cosmic club.

For now, membership will be restricted to the eight
"classical" planets in the solar system: Mercury,
Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and
Neptune.

Much-maligned Pluto doesn't make the grade under
the new rules for a planet: "a celestial body that is
in orbit around the sun, has sufficient mass for its
self-gravity to overcome rigid body forces so that
it assumes a ... nearly round shape, and has
cleared the neighborhood around its orbit."

Pluto is automatically disqualified because its
oblong orbit overlaps with Neptune's. Instead, it
will be reclassified in a new category of "dwarf
planets," similar to what long have been termed
"minor planets." The definition also lays out a
third class of lesser objects that orbit the sun —
"small solar system bodies," a term that will apply
to numerous asteroids, comets and other natural
satellites.

It was unclear how Pluto's demotion might affect
the mission of NASA's New Horizons spacecraft,
which earlier this year began a 9 1/2-year journey
to the oddball object to unearth more of its secrets.

The decision at a conference of 2,500 astronomers
from 75 countries was a dramatic shift from just a
week ago, when the group's leaders floated a
proposal that would have reaffirmed Pluto's
planetary status and made planets of its largest
moon and two other objects.

That plan proved highly unpopular, splitting
astronomers into factions and triggering days of
sometimes combative debate that led to Pluto's
undoing.

Now, two of the objects that at one point were
cruising toward possible full-fledged planethood
will join Pluto as dwarfs: the asteroid Ceres,
which was a planet in the 1800s before it got
demoted, and 2003 UB313, an icy object slightly
larger than Pluto whose discoverer, Michael
Brown of the California Institute of Technology in
Pasadena has nicknamed Xena.

Charon, the largest of Pluto's three moons, is no
longer under consideration for any special
designation.

Astrologers Join Debate of Pluto's
Planetary Status

At meetings of the International Astronomical
Union this week in Prague, the big debate is
over how to define a planet -- more particularly,
how to define Pluto, currently the ninth planet.
Recent discoveries have found other objects
that seem to have every bit as much of a claim
to the name "planet" as Pluto.

But a proposal on the table at the IAU meeting
would define "planet" in a way that includes
Pluto as well as three others, expanding the
number of planets in our solar system to 12.

It turns out that astronomers aren't the only
ones who care about Pluto's planetary status.
When your view of the future depends on how
you read the skies, it becomes all important
to know what's what up there. Robert Siegel
speaks with Kepler College professor and
astrologer Robert Hand about the implications
for astrologers.

FEEDBACK

Hi Marianne,

I am glad you could use the Full Moon feature, and Mahala had
some good material about the transits. With that Saturn-Neptune
opposition coming up, I think she's right about it being a volatile cycle.

Blessings,

Dikki Jo

FEATURE ARTICLE

                          SEPTEMBER'S STAR BRIGHT
The Sword and The Cherub Welcome Autumn.
                           By Dikki-Jo Mullen, Astrologer

A horoscope map illustrating the sky pattern for September 1st,
2006 is propped up on my desk. I just returned from an early
morning ride spinning through the nearly deserted streets of
downtown Orlando, Florida perched on "The Silver Doubloon",
my newly acquired silver-colored bicycle. The first stirrings of
autumn gave the air of dawn an edge.

Finally the damp, steamy tropical summer is waning and a new
phase of life is about to commence. While pedaling carefully
(it's two decades since I had a new bike and this one has 7
speeds) I thought about sharing the astrological messages of
the season with you. The cosmic patterns always describe
energy. What we do with it, how we react, is the key to
making it a good month.

September has tremendous potential. The month begins just
as the rare Saturn-Neptune opposition aspect we discussed
last month is separating. The reality of how the world's
various wars and conflicts are impacting us as individuals and
the planet overall are coming into focus. This includes
"The War on Drugs, which is especially ruled by Neptune.

September brings two eclipses. The keyword for an eclipse
is always "change" followed by "unexpected". Adapt.
Whatever you prepare for will be tinged by elements of
surprise. The first eclipse will be a Lunar or Full Moon one
at exactly 15 degrees of Pisces on September 7. It is close
to the planet Uranus in Pisces which points to interesting
new inventions, humanitarian concerns and a strong
interest in astrology and metaphysics this month.

The second eclipse will be on September 22, the eve of the
autumnal Equinox, at 29 degrees Virgo 20 minutes. It is a
Solar or New Moon eclipse. Check your horoscope for planets
at 11 - 18 degrees of Pisces or 26 degrees of Virgo - 2 degrees
of Libra. The eclipses will magnify the natal promise of these.
Prepare for a significant move or shift in your life within 90
days if your birthday is either anytime in September, or
between March 2-8.

Meditation and ritual to honor the lunations is always an aid
in healing and centering. The New and Full Moons each month
were the very first timekeepers. They set the pace for the weeks
to follow. The Full Moon eclipse of September 7 is really special
for it almost exactly conjoins the Fixed Star Achernar. What is
a Fixed Star, you wonder? Below is an excerpt from my feature
on the topic as published in the current edition of "The Witches' Almanac".
(Always Check "The Witches' Almanac" for your cmplete Astrological
 Forecast and Daily Moon Calendar.)

The key to having a happy and productive September lies in
understanding the Fixed Star Achernar, the heavenly "Sword
and The Cherub". Long ago one of the first astrologers gazed
heavenward and had a mysterious inspiration. A celestial point
of reference was selected, using a set of coordinates, in order
to record the positions of the stars. Organizing the stars around
a perceived celestial sphere, a catalog began to develop. Twenty
five stars were selected by about 409 BC when Arotos'
astronomical poem Eudoxoxof Cnidus first was recited.

About 360 BC two Chinese astrologers, Han Hun and Shih Shen,
created a catalog of about eight hundred stars. However, these
documents were both referencing an earlier work, the origins of
which are unclear. By 130 AD Klaudios Ptolemaios of Alexandria
(the legendary Ptolemy) created a catalog of over a thousand
stars. Today this is the oldest written document to survive
concerning the fixed stars. Critics of Ptolemy claimed he rewrote
the calculations of Hipparchos (190 - 125 BC), the greatest
astronomer of antiquity. Legend tells us that Hipparchos saw a
nova (exploding star) appear in the sign of Scorpio. Awestruck,
he was led to make a map of the stars around it.

'Fixed' always prefixed the star documents, for it was thought
that they never moved. In contrast the planets (from a word
which means wanderer) were always in motion, circling the
zodiac. In 1594 Tycho Brahe, the brilliant Danish nobleman
(1546 - 1601) was the first to accurately observe, without a
telescope, that something was questionable. The stars did
indeed seem to move, although very slowly. In 1718 Sir
Edmond Halley confirmed Brahe's work. Halley determined
very accurate placements for several stars, including Sirius,
Procycon and Arcturus, showing that they did indeed move,
although the motion was barely perceptible over the span
of a century. This ended the myth of fixed stars, although
the term has lingered on for more than two hundred years.

Each of the stars we see in the sky is a sun, similar in
structure and chemical composition to our own Sun. The
stars differ only in temperature and size. The magnitude
of a star describes its brightness, while the colors are a
key to temperature. Stars twinkle in hues of white, blue,
green, red or amber. Each star emits a distinctive, unique
radiant energy which extends toward us always. The
distances between the stars and their distances from Earth
are so enormous that our minds can barely conceive of them.

In order to manage an understanding at all the measuremen
of light years was developed. This is the distance that light
can travel in a single year, while moving at the rate of 186,330
miles per second. The very closest stars are four to five light
years away. Some of them are so far away that their light
started to us before Columbus discovered America. These
stars might not even be around any more, but it will be
years in the future before it will be possible to determine that.

The magical lore of stars is prominent in the universe of the
mystic.  Rituals involving the invocation of stars and their
accompanying spirits have been popular since earliest times.
Astrologers note that certain stars have an impact when a planet
conjoins them or when they are rising on the ascendant or posed
at the mid heaven of a horoscope. Subtle and distant as their
energy fields might be, the fixed stars (still called fixed even
though that is a misnomer) are meaningful. Some of the stars
bring a message which is quite dire, others relate to blessings.
Often the energy of a star is skewed, depending upon which
planet it is linked with.

On September 7 of 2006 there will be an opportunity to observe
the influences of a fixed star and learn from its message. The
lunar eclipse that day will almost exactly conjoin the fixed star
Achernar. Achernar was at 15 degrees Pisces 11 minutes in 2000,
(it hasn't moved significantly since that measurement was taken).
Astrologers use an orb of about three degrees for the stars. This
promises to bring an especially strong energy directly linked to
the star's influence during the year to come.

Achernar's emblems are the sword and the cherub. A bright
blue-white star of the second magnitude, it is located in a
constellation called Alpha Eidanus, or The Mouth of the River
Eridani. Achernar is linked to the qualities of benevolent Jupiter,
a traditional ruler of Pisces. It stimulates justice, gives an
expanded vision of whole issues, high aspirations, and social
consciousness. When well aspected by the Sun or natal Jupiter,
Achernar promises rewards for outstanding work, patience,
optimism and a good education. Success in contact with the
general public, a focus on religion and philosophy, gain in
business, even long lasting fame have been related to the
power of this star.

In the world overall, new business trends and spiritual
awakening as well as a stronger sense of good will can prevail
while Achernar is active.

Since the eclipse occurs with the North Node, the positive
potentials should be even more pronounced. Eclipses, which
are especially strong Full or New Moons, have long been
celebrated in ritual circles. The eclipse with Achernar will be
exact at 2:41 pm Eastern Daylight Time on September 7, 2006.
Drawing upon inner guidance, Achernar and the Full Moon can
be honored either that evening or the night before. Dedicate a
ceremony to Jove and the Sun. Include a treasured ritual sword
coupled with images of cherubs on the altar or as a meditation
focus.

Early September 2006 Sun Sign Predictions

Fire Signs
Aries, Leo, Sagittarius

A favorable Venus transit through Leo at a trine to Pluto
in Sagittarius favors your social life. Plan a labor day
weekend party, reach out to a new friend. Try a creative
project. A relationship improves.

Earth Signs
Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn

Mercury and Mars in Virgo favor travel and exercise. Your
intellectual energy is high. Enroll in a class or plan a journey,
avoid expressing anger. Seek resolutions instead. Your
enthusiasm is high.

Air Signs
Gemini, Libra, Aquarius

Chiron and Neptune are both retrograde in Aquarius. Tie up
loose ends, organize collections and keepsakes. It's a perfect
time for past life regression studies or for communing with
the spirit world. Practice Yoga or attend a drum circle or other
worship service to attune to the divine.

Water Signs
Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces

Lucky Jupiter moves rapidly through your Scorpio while
Uranus in Pisces is close to that September 7 eclipse. Carpe
Diem! Be alert to opportunity and make the most of your
many blessings. You are the most fortunate group of zodiac
signs at present. Past efforts are rewarded, seek what you
truly desire. It's a time of peak accomplishment.

THE LIGHTER SIDE

Virus Alert - Watch Out For These!

Security experts and federal government authorities warn that
offspring of the dangerous "I love you" e-mail virus are now on
the loose. As a public service, we present the following list of
"I Love You" mutations and how to recognize them.

The "I Love You, But I'm Shy" virus never actually invades your
computer, but collects data about it worshipfully from afar.

The "Love The One You're With" virus hangs around your computer,
but the whole thing is just temporary until it can find the computer
that it really wants to invade.

The "Happily Married" virus invades only one computer and stays
with it for life.

The "Unhappily Married" virus spends a long time negotiating with
a computer, finally invades it, and then strays to other computers
from time to time.

The "I Want A Divorce" virus sends repeated, hard-to-read
messages that your computer isn't working and takes half of your
computer's best data in an ugly network session.

The "Stalker" virus spends unnatural amount of time monitoring
your computer, collecting data your computer has thrown away
and tries to record all of its functions. And it writes rude
messages to any other computer with which yours connects on
any regular basis.

The "Forever Single" virus causes your computer to focus solely
on other computers with which it is totally incompatible or prove
generally unavailable.

The "Deadbeat Dad" virus invades your computer, spawns an
entirely new database, then refuses to help update it as it grows.
