Aalu Tamatar(potato-tomato)

To serve - 6 persons.

Ingredients -

Potato-1kg(medium shaped),Tomato-300 gms,onion-500gms,mustard grains-25 gms, fenugreek seeds-3gms,Tamarind powder-25gms(paste will equally do),Garlic-1 medium round piece,ginger-10 gms,Garam Masala/indian masala(hot spice powder)-10gms,green chillies-2-4according to taste,oil (preferably mustard oil,or not available can use any vegetable oil like sunflower or groundnut),salt,corriander leaves.

Method -

1.Keep potatoes in a pressure cooker and let it boil with water for nearly ten minutes.Take out potatoes and peel off the skin and pierce it with a pin throughout or can cut in two pieces if the potato is bigger.
2.in between prepare the paste of onion,mustard grain,garlic,ginger,green chillies in a mixer.
4.heat the pan and pour 200 gms of oil and heat for five minutes.
5.add fenugreek seeds,heat little
6.add paste of onion,mustard grains,tamarind,garlic,garam masala,green chillies and ginger. fry till paste turns little reddish
7.add tamarind heat little.
8.add tomato paste heat for some time .
9.add 4 cups of water.
10.add salt to taste.if not sure add half small teaspoonfull or even less.excess salt will spoil u'r cooking.you can add more later after cooking according to u'r taste.
11.add boiled potato.
12.lower the flame and cover the pan partially and keep cooking for 10-15 minutes.keep adding little water ,that depends upon amount of gravy u want.But in this gravy double the amount of potato is preferred.
13.now u'r ALU-TAMATAR curry is ready to serve.
14.decorate with corriander leaves and serve with boiled rice.

I haven't cooked much.but only try if something appears intresting when at home.Otherwise i am simply reluctant to help mamma in kitchen .Even for a glass of water i would call mamma or order sister Bittu.
This dish Alu-Tamatar is my favourite.The method i have myself explored when i had to cook myself when was in Bokaro in class XI and XII.Most of the time i would go to some road side hotel to eat.It was difficult when exhausted after class.
Mamma may be preparing it very differently.I would ask her some dishes which i like most and put it here.
