And, now, for the story.
                                "Waiting"

"Please hold on, Scully. You done everything else for me. Please do this..."

Fox Mulder ran alongside the gurney that rushed his partner into the Emergency Room.

"You'll live through this. You're strong. There isn't anything you can't do; nothing you can't live through..."

"Mulder..." she managed to say. The bullet had pireced through her stomach. She was stabalized at the moment, as best as she could be, but there was still the operation.

"Don't talk. You need your strength."

"Mulder, I..."

"Ssh. We're almost there. Save your strength." As they reached the Emergency Room. he stopped himself. If he kept running, he would have gone into surgery with her. Just to be there when and if she needed him.

In a sense, he blamed this whole case on Felig. He should have been there with her, but he wasn't. If he had been there, he might have been the one fighting for his life right now.

Not her.

He stood and peered into the windows of the double doors.

An orderly came and led him to the waiting room and promised to keep him posted on her condition.

The hours that followed were Hell on Earth.

The doctors operated for twelve hours straight and were able save her life.

Fox Mulder did something he seldom did. He cried tears of sheer joy.

She was to be taken and settled into a room within the hour.

Dr. Jefferson, the head doctor who operated on her, took Mulder aside and sat him down in a nearby seat.

"As you probably already know, your wife is doing fine..." the doctor began.

Mulder smiled sheepishly. "Oh, sir, she isn't my..."

The doctor continued before Mulder could finish. "There was damage done in the abdominal area. Sir, I'm sorry, but your wife seems to have suffered a miscarriage."

Mulder was stunned. "What?" He had no idea she was pregnant. He was trying to hide his astonishment.

"Does she know?"

Dr. Jefferson nodded. "I think she is as taken aback as you are," he looked at his watch. "They may have gotten an early start on her room. If you like, she should be in her room, 1213, if you want to look in on her. She may be a bit groggy."

He nodded and went looking for the room. He found it with her inside appearing to rest peacefully.

He didn't want to disturb her. The shock of what had happened was enough without him disturbing her much needed sleep.

He took one more look and headed back towards the waiting room-vowing to be the first face she saw when she woke up.
