HARRISON BROACH
1820-1905
Harrison Broach was the son of Charles Broach and his wife, Mary Polly Smith.  His grandfather was Jones Broach, who served in the Revolutionary War.  When Harrison was 23 years old, he married Elizabeth "Betsy" Peters, daughter of John Peters and Sarah Haynes.  Her grandfather, Moses Haynes also served in the Revolutionary War.  Harrison and Betsy had 7 daughters and 2 sons.

At the time of the Civil War, Harrison was over 40 years old, yet he enlisted in
Co. H, 42nd Regiment Georgia Volunteer Infantry, popularly known as "The Walton Tigers".   In March of 1865, this unit was engaged in the biggest battle on North Carolina soil,  the Battle of Bentonville.   It was the only seious resistance General Sherman's forces met in North Carolina on his campaign.  On April 26, 1865, the Walton Tigers surrendered. Harrison walked all the way back to Georgia!  He was 45 years old.

Harrison died 2 June 1905 at the age of 85.  He and Betsy are buried at Peters Town Cemetery in Walton County, Georgia.
