For Speed Install a Cable Modem. I use the @home.com (AT&T) connection in my home office. I was able to get rid of my extra phone line, a savings of about $15.00/month, and drop AOL, a savings of $22.00/month, for a total saving of $37.00/month. The @home.com monthly charge for me is $41.80 including tax and everything. Considering that I saved $37.00/month getting rid of the phone and AOL it only cost me another $4.80/month for my high speed cable connection. *This news came in today, @home.com prices to increase $6.00/month in June. If you already have a TV cable near your computer the setup is a snap. The installer first did something at the cable box out by the street. Then he put a cable modem on top of my computer tower. That's it on the left. Then he connected the cable to the modem back and ran a line from the modem to a small interface box (that's it above). Then out of the little interface box he plugged a line into a USB port on the back of my computer. And, plugged the power cord from the modem into the power strip. Next, he installed the software and we were in business. The first thing I did was download a Netscape browser of 15MB which took a couple of minutes only. Go For It. Vern |
