Cara was born an illegitimate daughter, niece of Charles the Second of Spain. Her father had been engaged, but due to an inability to keep a reign on his desires, the bride to be was found to be pregnant. Despite the child being his, the marriage contract was canceled, as the church found the bride to be ‘lacking in proper morals’. Her and her twin Meria were brought to the Spanish court at the age of seven, when their mother died. Raised with the wealth of the nobility and few social expectations, Cara was allowed to study whatever she felt like. No one ever expected the bastard daughter of the Prince to matter much in the long run anyway. Without having to spend time learning how to be a proper wife and diplomat, Cara spent most of her time reading and learning more than most women ever aspired to in that age.

By the time she was eighteen, she had developed a sharp wit and a tongue to match it, thought she did a fair job of keeping both hidden from everyone. There were, in her opinion, several things wrong with the world. One of the biggest mistakes was the fact that she was stuck by the mere fact that she had been born a woman. The other was the fact that due to her illegitimacy and being the younger twin, she would never see the throne. A year later, the cardinal who had ruled her parent’s marriage unfit was tried, excommunicated, and hung like a common criminal. No one ever thought to give any though to the fact that Cara might have been involved in the incident.

While the girl’s were illegitimate, they were still their father’s only children and his only connection to the woman he had loved. Not to mention the fact that the king had no heir, which made them the closest to the throne. If either girl had a son, he would ascend to the throne on the king’s death. As such, they were given more attention and privileges than most bastard children.

While making a leisure trip to Egypt, the girls were allowed to come along. While there, Cara ran into her Maker. Or rather, he found her. Amused and intrigued by her temper and intelligence, Khu made the decision to make Cara a Child. At first she was elated by the new sense of freedom. It didn’t last long. What happened between the two isn’t known, and she refuses to talk about it. But the end result was that she ended up in Paris, working for Lisette and being tutored by Cael. Stifled under another’s control, she disappeared from France during an uprising among Lisette’s Children.

No one knows exactly where she was, or what she was doing during the time after that. The only thing known for certain is that she briefly returned to her Maker before roaming around Europe. She only recently came to Mina’s territory, but has managed to acquire rank and prestige rather quickly for someone her age.
