1. Admiral Willie – everyone in our Club thanks you for your leadership and all

your efforts this past year. We are looking forward to your report at the July 10 th

meeting. Past President Willie has requested time to present a club review of the

various accomplishments for the service areas and projects during her Presidency

term. Let’s have a large turnout for Willie on the 10 th .

2. President Elect Carmen Portnoy will present a short review of the June Club trip

to Catalina Island at the July 3, 2003 meeting. There will be a short board meeting

for the 2003-2004 Board after the meeting. Please start your holiday weekend off

with a Rotary smile by attending.

3. Rotarian Peter Escobar’s brother passed away this past Friday evening. Peter,

our prayers and friendship are sent during this difficult time to your family and

yourself. Services are to be held this Thursday at 10AM at Holy Cross on Slausen.

4. On July 10, 2003, a joint board meeting of last year’s (2002-2003) and this

year’s (2003-2004) Directors will be held after the regular meeting..5. THANKS to Past Club President JR Dzubak and to Carol Williamson for the

June 28 Demotion Party. It was a rousing success – everyone had a fun time.

Approximately 50 people attended. District dignitaries present were 2003-2004

District Governor John Colville’s Executive Aide Carmela Raack, Assistant District

Governor Cozette Vergari, District Secretary Rebecca Garcia-Prieto. Carmela and

Cozette installed our club’s 2003-2004 officers and directors. District Governor

Elect Pat Cashin (Culver City Club) was also scheduled to attend, but he became ill

at the last minute. Get well soon, Pat. We missed 2002-2003 District Governor

Rick Mendoza and his wife Helen. Thanks to DG Rick and Helen for all their hard

work this past Rotary year. Unfortunately a prior commitment kept them away.

DG Colville also had other matters to attend to. We missed you too, John.

6. The card drawing and raffle prizes at the demotion party were a rousing success.

Rotarian Gale LeBarre won over $300 at the card drawing, which she promptly

donated to the Club. THANKS GALE – that was a very selfless Rotarian act.

Rotarian Adiba Shaby sold raffle tickets-over $300 was collected. Rotarian Sibyl

Buchannan brought many great raffle prizes – thanks Sibyl. We will miss you as a

member although we will see you on a regular basis.

7. Adiba Shaby was hospitalized on early Monday morning with stomach pain at

Brotman Hospital. Get well soon, Adiba. She is always doing something to help

our club – just as she does students with scholarships.

8. Tom Ryan is our MESH editor once again. THANKS, TOM. Tom and I could

use some writers. Each and every member can write an article for publication. Let

your journalistic juices flow and send your articles to Tom via email.

Letters to the Editor

What a great fun night last Saturday's demotion party was! JR and Carol went way

beyond the most imaginative in creating

FUN... My heartfelt thanks to them and to every one of the Venice Marina Rotary

Club members. Each person gave part of

themselves to our club effort to support Rotary and to fulfill the motto: "Service

Above Self". And our friendships really came

together last Saturday..With David Maxwell at the helm, the new Rotary year will be a sensation I'm sure.

It will be everyone's pleasure to work with

him as he has worked very hard this year to prepare for his leadership role. Plan to

support him to the utmost. And David,

thank you so very much for the wonderful array of flower bouquets you presented.

They were all very beautiful and thoughtful.

Any of you who did not pick up your Club Picture memento may do so at any of

the next few meetings as I will bring them for

distribution. I hope it will bring happy memories of Venice Marina Rotary year

2002-2003! Again, my deepest appreciation

to you all for giving me a very rewarding experience at the helm of a great Club!

Yours in Rotary, Willie Hjorth

Tom:

In the next MESH, please include my heartfelt thanks for the show of support from

my Rotary friends at the Installation Dinner for the Chamber. I was thrilled to see

not one but two full tables of friends there in attendance!

Best regards,

Dave
