From the desk of the President,
Willie Hjorth
Happy New Year 2003!
Bhichai Rattakul, president of Rotary International, was entrancing at his reception at the
Cathedral of Los Angeles on Sunday, December 29th. Humor, wit, excellent English and above
all, dedication to world Rotarians graced his message as he spoke to seven Rotary districts of
Southern California. KAZ SMITH with son David Smith and wife Cindy were photographed
with President Rattakul as Major Donor honorees. Kaz counts eleven Paul Harris Fellowships in
her family, and she is working to bring in four more grandchildren. At the reception were David
Maxwell, Adiba Shaby and Willie Hjorth.
"Sow the Seeds of Love", motto of our RI president Rattakul, came alive as he urged "grass
roots" happenings at Rotary Clubs worldwide. Pres. Rattakul has spent his first half term
traveling the globe encouraging Rotary clubs to devote their energies and efforts to local needs.
While Polio Eradication is no. 1 goal for RI, Rattakul reinterated the current need to stay focused
on community needs. Dynamic energy is the key to achieve the goals we set.
