The Mesh
From the desk of the President,
Willie Hjorth
Elections for the 2003-2004 year were held at the Dec. 5, 2002 meeting
along with committee appointments by President-elect David Maxwell. The
Slate of Nominated Officers and Directors was unanimously ratified by acclaim
by all Venice-Marina Rotary Club members at this meeting.
Congratulations!!! The incoming Board of Directors and
Committee(wo)men excel in energy and talents beyond expectations of the ordinary
and are totally in support of incoming President-elect David
M. Many thanks to Nominating Committee Chair Vince Scott who
did his usual leadership magic with David's input to put together a tremendous
Board for next year. It's going to be a FANTASTIC
YEAR!!!!!
Back to the mundane. The Calendar for the remainder of the
Rotary year was distributed along with the next four months of rotation
Invocation/Raffle Prizes assignments. Members absent from this meeting
should be sure to obtain a copy of both as there is valuable and specific
information in both documents.
MEETING OF DECEMBER 12, 2002
Try to be at Shanghai Red's as close to 12:10 p.m. as you can.
WE WILL EAT AND RUN to McBride School at 12:45. Timing will be everything
and I hope the salads will be on the tables at 12:00 NOON, entree (prime rib) at
12:15 p.m. Please plan to journey to McBride School,
Centinela between Washington Place and Venice Boulevard for Santa's appearance
and the giving of gifts to each of the 77 handicapped Girl and Boy Scouts of the
School. Our Honorary Member Jack Koch was the longtime Scoutmaster of
these Scouts and the founder of this program, the only one of its kind for the
Scouts of America at this special school. Please plan to be an "ELF" right
after the luncheon and help distribute the toys we provide and assist in
serving the cookies and juice. Our Club will make a donation to the Scout
program for the party hospitality in addition to Santa ALEX GORBY giving
his special holiday spirit to every scout. Come to the School. YOU
WILL BE GLAD YOU DID !!!
You who missed the 12/5 meeting can only dream of a
wonderful holiday buffet provided by Shanghai Red's. A very
tasty change of pace. We'll try for an occasional buffet
luncheon, if accommodatable by Shanghai Red's. The Venice-Marina Club will
give the staff at Shanghai Red's a $150 Christmas gift. We have enjoyed
great food, courteous service and wonderful Marina ambience this year at
Shanghai Red's. We will continue our contract.
Editor-Publisher Tom, there is more... but I am hoping
the attachments from various district assistant governors can be posted here
since time is of the essence for the license plates applications. We have
four candidates that have expressed interest: David Voss, Vince
Smith, Dr. Gwen Hughes and Jim Bovee. Maybe Peter Escobar, Alex Gorby,
Gale LaBarre and JR Dzubak might consider Rotary License Plates
also. I know my VW Classic Truck might quality but I gave at
the office by getting a Rotary International Credit Card!
Note from the Editor -
There is an attachment to this and you can open it if you have Acrobate
Reader. If you don't have it you can download it for free from the
web. There is a way to put a link to the free down load site but I don't
know how to do that so you'll have to get it on your own. If you are
having trouble getting it and can't download the attachment let me know and I'll
get you more information on how to get the program. We should all have
Acrobate Reader because that is the program that will read all of the
attachments that will be posted in the e-mesh. Good luck.
