From the desk of the President,
Willie Hjorth
Last Thursday’s
luncheon at the Westminster Senior Center was attended byapproximately 50 Valentine party’ers including 13 Rotarians… a great time
was had by all. Roxie Evans, the Dept. of Parks & Rec director, was a vivacious
hostess, gave an outstanding invocation filled with gospel song and prayer that
the leaders of all the world nations be filled with understanding, love and
achieve peace. It was all very moving. We played not-like-your-grandmother’s
games (no bingo) incorporating song and dance, with prizes won by Seniors
and Rotarians both. Then we devoured every morsel of chicken fajitas and
cake provided by Rainbow Acres (thanks, Howard)! Good Job, JR, we will
have to make that an Annual!

your tickets NOW. We will have publicity in The Argonaut this week for the final
push. Be sure to sign up with Mary Richert and George Swartz to help. The.Venice Fire Department serves our community 24/7 and we need to show our
support!!
AND SPEAKING OF THE ARGONAU
T, we have had a great response tothe big ad we placed in January. Several prospective members have been
invited to attend this week’s luncheon. PLEASE MAKE EVERY EFFORT TO ATTEND
and to meet and greet all new faces. Congeniality is one of the hallmarks of the
Venice Marina Rotary Club. Keep in mind all of our projects and
accomplishments. Most prospective members like to see where they can fit in
to make a community commitment to help. Be ready to inform them. JR, our
Club Service Director, has a wonderful program planned.
NOTES
The McBride School scouts
have been having "haulaway sales", cookieand raffle fundraisers at the school to raise monies for the summer camp
program. Ruth Griffin, the coordinator, was extremely appreciative of our
gathering funds for the bus program. This is the first year that she has had to
raise funds for the disabled scouts, and she is looking forward to going over the
top with our contribution sometime in May when we will be awarding funds. A
special thank you is going to Alex Gorby for his generous donation to the Scout
transportation program.
LITERACY PROGRAM
books which we will be distributing to the local schoolsand libraries will be available sometime April-May. At that time, our Venice
Marina Rotarians will make presentations of the sets we designated.
[Sometimes these programs just take longer to implement but Rotarians will
make a difference!]
