FROM THE PRESIDENT,

     WILLIE HJORTH

PROJECT AMIGOS, the Venice-Marina Rotary Club international humanitarian project started by David Voss seven years ago, is definitely happening on October 12-13 weekend.  That’s in four weeks.   David Voss, Tom Ryan and Brad Bovee (Jim’s son), our construction specialists, will have Venice-Marina Rotary Club helpers who all will come away with tremendous satisfaction of knowing that they provided a better abode for a Mexican family.    It’s baffles me how different life IS only three hours away.   Being able to help even one family makes a Rotarian difference.

As Bhichai Rattakul, president of Rotary International, says, the real work of Rotary is service projects.  So make plans to join the construction action --  down on Friday, build on Saturday, camaraderie on Saturday night, and golf on Sunday or just relax.  Each of us bears our own expenses but the Club buys the construction materials.   Your guests are welcome, especially those good with a hammer!

THE ROTARIAN

Rotary International publishes a magazine which we all should be receiving.  Please tell Sibyl Buchanan, our club secretary, if you have not received The Rotarian.

In the August issue are two outstanding sections:  the Rotary Experience” and “Rotary Basics”.  The former recounts international and USA projects that make a difference, and the second 8-page article brings us up to date on the current outlook of Rotary, the history and program funding opportunities.   This concise overview is available in reprints which Willie will obtain and distribute to all our members.

Every member is encouraged to read Rotary Basics (595-EN) as it will invigorate the long-term members why they joined Rotary years ago, and our newer members will learn about Rotary’s “rich and sometimes complex” ways to serve.  RI president Bhichai Rattakul has told us to SOW THE SEEDS OF LOVE that will take root around the world.  The gift of Rotary is to help others.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Special Guest Vince Smith, sponsored by Dr. Gwendolyn Hughes, has made application to join our Club.  His classification is CEO/Owner of A.V.B.S. Alternative Bankning and Short Term Investment.   Vince has told of his financial work at several meetings and made several contributions to our Club already.   We look forward to his induction.

PAUL HARRIS CELEBRATION, November 2, 2002 to be held at the new cathedral downtown has been sold out.  Be sure you get your checks ($75 per person) to Dr. Vince Scott for our table 46 seating ten.  Checks are to be made payable to the Venice-Marina Rotary Club.

Peter Escobar and Sibyl Buchanan have already made silent auction item donations for the event.

Don’t forget that our Club gets $$ credits for items sold.   Please contact Dr. Vince asap to donate items which may be auctioned.

DISTRICT GOVERNOR RICK MENDOZA will be visiting the club on October 3, 2002.  Our various avenues of service reports are to be presented to him by the officers and directors.  A schedule will be circulated.

Tim Waud is back from extensive management training for the U. S. Army Recruiting Office.  He is now the boss and doesn’t have to do the hands-on recruiting.  He will undoubtedly be a great manager.  Tim and Tom Ryan will update our website with calendar and MESH news.   Tom has done wonders at getting the MESH emailed with the assistance of David Voss, computer guru.

JR has Peggy O’Neill, a dynamic speaker, coming on Thursday, September 19.  Don’t miss this meeting!

Letters to the Editor

On behalf of the Boys & Girls Club of Venice, we would like  to thank the
Venice Marina- Rotary for being apart of our Jazz Brunch Celebration. We
very much appreciate the Rotary Club purchasing a table at the event and
hope some Rotarians can join us on Sunday, September 29th. Again, the Boys &
Girls Clubs appreciate the 30 + years you have kept supporting the many
things were doing for young people in our community.

Your in Service to You,
Past President Venice- Marina Rotary, JR Dzubak

Also, Don't forget to Join us for another WONDERFUL program this Thursday
for SMALL WONDERS!. It will be another program you'll wish you would of
brought a friend to see!

JR DZUBAK

Don't forget that another very worthwhile contribution that you can make to Project Amigos is the donation of clothing.  Remember that the people we will be helping
out in Mexico don't have anything and anything that you can take down with you or send down with one of us who is going will have a tremendous effect.  So please
take a little time to clean out your closet.  If you can make the donation in person you will never forget the gratitude and if you send it down with me I'll do my best
to get a picture for you of the presentation.
Thanks in advance,
Tom Ryan
