The VMVC evolved from a small group of individuals who began restoring and collecting WW2 era Jeeps in the 1960's. By 1976 membership had grown to around seventy people. During the earlier years bush trips and off-road outings were popular among the members . Into the 1970's , the emphasis changed somewhat with more outings to miltary open days and air shows . Bush trips were still popular however.

Today, the club can be described as being more eclectic than the past years - because of the many varied interests and niche fields of collecting .
