Victorian Military Vehicle Corps
THE STORY BEHIND THE GREEN MACHINES
The Victorian Military Corps was founded back in April 1961 on the 20th anniversary of the Siege of Tobruk by a handful of off-road enthusiasts who owned ex-army world War 2 jeeps and a WLA Harley Davidson motor bike, it is reputed to be the first vehicle club of its kind in the world to cater purely for ex-military transport. From this small start the Corps has grown into the largest ex-Military Vehicle Club in the Southern Hemisphere. There are now some 400 members from all around Australia and overseas, with in excess of 1600 vehicles from such countries as Australia, Britain, America, Russia, Germany and Japan being owned by these members. The Vehicles range from bicycles & horse drawn wagons through to tanks and even a plane. Our oldest motor vehicle being a 1916 Albion truck from WW1. Also the collection and preservation of technical data and memorbilia pertaining to vehicles is encouraged by the Corps. Corps outings include street parades, school fetes, static displays, bush trips, picnics, amphibious weekends and the biggest day of the year is of course ANZAC day. On this day all the Corps vehicles are placed at the disposal of the various R.S.L. associations around Victoria to use in their Anzac Day commoration marches. This is done at no charge to the R.S.L., it is our members way of thanking the ex-service men and women, because if it wasn't for them we would not have a hobby. We are not in any way a para-military organisation, or are we in the business of condoning or promoting acts of war ( the word Corps when defined meaning " a group of people with a common interest"). We are purly vehicle enthusiasts who enjoy our hobby and showing off the vehicle collection we own. If you Have any queries at all, please do not hesitate to ask any Corps member in attendance here today, or you can contact us at a later date via our Secretary, at P.O. Box 367 Reservoir, 3073, Victoria, Australia. www.Geocities.com/Motorcity/Factory/1008 Have A good day |
