| I was on a working visit to the Dobroyd Castle Buddhist Center. One of my jobs one day was to paint the corridor of one of the resident halls. I was to work with Maria,who was also in charge of other tasks. As we started off painting at about 10 a.m., she was called away. She returned just after 11 o'clock and saw that I was still painting. Using her distinct british accent, she said, "You missed tea! Did you want some tea now?" I said, "Tea?? Tea? You gotta tell me these things, you know I don't know about this stuff" We had a good laugh, but I continued painting. She remarked then about my American work ethics. "You Americans, always working, working." Maria, of course, being British, was being sarcastic. I thought it was funny and I had a good time working with her, when she wasn't running off for tea. Anyway, tea, for those that don't know, is basically snack time. Eleven o'clock is a good time for tea because it's a few hours after breakfast and a few hours before lunch. Tea consists of some sort of biscuits (cookies) or small sandwiches or some other snack item and, of course, a cup of hot tea with milk. |

| This is a picture of the West Gate, the original entrance to the Winchester Castle. It was once used as a prison and now cases a museum showing the west gate uses through the centuries. It was actually once a pub! (click here for some other info) | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| And this is a sorry excuse for a tourist shot. I'm on top of the West Gate. Behind me is the Great Hall. I had a different idea of what the picture should have looked like, but another tourist from Canada took my picture. | The Round Table. (click here for a closer veiw) I learned that King Edward III had this table made in the 13th century. Since nobody knew what the mystical Celtic legendary King Arthur looked like, the face of the king painted on the table is probably that of King Edward III in his youth.King Edward III loved the stories of the legend and considered using the Round Table to revive chivalry. A mighty large order when you realize that it weighs a ton (literally) and is 18 feet in diameter. Still, the feeling of fantasy enters your mind when you walk into the Great Hall. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
