Rod's Photo Album

In April of 1979 I found out that my "Uncle Sam" deceided I needed a trip to Germany. I wasn't totally sure I liked the idea, but didn't really have a choice. So before I went I bought an Olympus OM-1 camera. To be honest I had no idea how to use it, and being a typical male I wasn't going to read the directions. My first weekend in Country I shot 5 rolls of 35 exposure film, and ran out. Needless to say when I got the developing bill I slowed down a little on the shutter button. From that time on I would like to think my eye has improved a little, although I have boxes full of pictures that will never see the light of day.
On this page I have put some of my personal favorites. Most but not all are taken here is Western Colorado. I hope you will take the time to allow this page to load, it may take a few minutes, and enjoy the pictures.

I took this picture in December of 1991 along the Carefree Highway, (yes thats the real name of the road), near Wickenburg Arizona. I was amazed at the size of the Saguaro cactus around the Phoenix area. If you have never seen one there is no way a picture can prepare you for the sight of a cactus this size.

In Koln Germany is one of the biggest and most impresive gothic cathederals in Europe. No building in town may stand taller than the "Dom". The Cathederal was started in 1580 and finished in 1880. I took this in Nov. of 1980. I like looking at things in a different light and the lights shining on the cathederal caught my eye.

Within a few miles of our house is the Grand Mesa. One evening several years ago we took a ride up Lands End Road. Along the way up the Mesa I saw a group of oak brush reflected in a puddle that was left over from the last rain storm. This image was one of those pleasant suprises you get one in a while. I really didn't expect a lot from this picture when I took it. As it turned out this is one of my favorite pictures. So much so I named it "Pleasant Reflections".

Just west of Grand Junction is the Colorado National Monument. It's redrock formations and deep canyon views make it a wonderful place to get away and enjoy God's creation. I took this several years ago on fathers day. We hiked into one of the canyons and shot film most of the morning. The sky was clear and blue, but boring. I was down to four frames when these little clouds blew in. As I watched they seemed to settle into the curve of the monument. All I had to do was shoot the pictures and hope I didn't mess it up.

New Years Day 1992 I woke up to find Grand Junction covered in a blanket of snow. Cyndi and the boys were still asleep so I deceided to take a ride over the Colorado National Monument. Driving over I knew I was the first person through that year, as there were no tracks in the snow ahead of me. Coming around a corner I saw this snow covered tree, and knew that the drive was worth it.

Just north of the town of Rifle Colorado is the Rifle Falls State Park. It always seems to be 20 degrees cooler than Grand Junction and a great place to get away. This was taken in the middle of the summer several years ago. Pleasant memories of a beautiful getaway.
