Opposite Polls by Clifford J. Marlowe Have you ever heard a fellow American say, " No one ever polled me?" Well, I have too. So here comes Zogby International with a new poll showing Gore ahead of Bush. They claim interviews with only approximately one thousand people. Wow! Are we to believe one thousand people polled should represent over three hundred million Americans that have never been polled? Vote.com has a greater number of people polled on a daily basis. It’s much more reliable and free! The Zogby group still has mud on their face from the poll predicting McCain would win South Carolina. Bush was ahead 20 points, then McCain took the lead by 5 points. Zogby predicted the winner would be McCain, but Bush won in a landslide. With such a credibility factor, why should we now believe this latest poll by Zogby or anyone else ? A similar pattern seems to be developing between Gore and Bush. First, Bush is ahead by 17 points; now Gore is only 3 points away in one poll, and in another we see a one point lead. And that leads us to a very important fact during this very religious election, thanks to Lieberman interjecting his orthodox faith. In the Old Testament, we are told not to believe a man that predicts the future if he is not right 100% of the time. If the pollster was wrong just once, in Moses’ day, he was considered unreliable and a "false prophet". Maybe that accounts for Joe not giving up his Senate seat yet? So where does Zogby get the information to tell America on a Saturday that Bush has a 17-point lead and in just two days only a 3 point lead and now Gore is ahead? Zogby is headquartered in New York City, my hometown, but NYC is also a Democratic strong hold. If you take a poll in upstate New York, which is mostly Republican, the poll would come out quite differently. You know, the first three digits of your phone number tell which voting district you are in. Political Parties have a record of every election and primary you voted in and what your party affiliation is. So, Mr. Pollster! Give America the first three digits of the people you polled on a graph, on a website, free for all America to see! We don’t even need all the numbers, just three digits! Don’t hold your breath! I tried it once with a certain poll group and they said it was private info. How are we to know it is true then? Prove to us it is as they say, "scientific"! Go to a poll website and see if you can access the info for free on how they obtained their data. See if they will let you search their database. What a racket! Some colleges charge two grand just to access their polling database. Pollsters are paid for what they do and some custom polls cost a hefty price. Certainly during an election year it should be made public who has paid for these polls to be made, as well as the political affiliations and the demographics. I like the Internet polls much better, for example vote.com or excite.com, which are open to the general public 24/7. Any high school student can place a free poll on your own website from freepolls.com . Web polls can range from twenty thousand to thirty thousand people. One day, polls, like paying for Internet access, will be a thing of the past thanks to the free access of the web. Polls, like the Matrix, will be cracked and are cracking. Just look at the Zogby poll disaster in South Carolina as proof. We can find out the truth much faster and in much greater quantity. Zogby and other polls have been wrong and will be wrong in the future. As pollsters see themselves losing their influence to vote.com and others, the temptation to sensationalize information in order to keep a market share increases. When this happens, polling data becomes an unreliable indicator. The only true gauge is the voting booth. So vote and don’t let opposite polls deceive you.
