OK - Ric had asked for a battle report on the MC list. I figured
some of you might be interested as well, so here goes. Just a short
recap, but it would be interesting to here how some of the other
games went.

Game 1: VS Chaos, Mortal Army - Nurgle; John Graham

John had a beautiful army. All Calvary. From memory: two big blocks
of Chaos knight (one chosen), a couple of mounted marauder units and
two Chaos chariots. A tough army and a great player, but by no means
broken - He deserved the "Best Army" award he won (although I know he
had his sights set higher).

My greatest tactical mistake was thinking that an eagle might be able
to charge a chaos chariot and mix it up for a few turns. I charged
the eagle in, and at the same time tried to work my Silver Helms
around - leaving an exposed flank - if the chariot beat and pursued
the eagle. I saw the danger and as an after-thought separated the
commander from the unit to intercept the chariot charge. I was
hopeful that his 1+ re-rollable armor save might be enough to survive
the chariot charge (if worse came to worse). The chariot (of course)
beat the eagle and pursued into the commander - who failed his fear
test and ran!!! The Silver Helms ended up spending the entire game
fighting the chariots and a spawn! The Commander was never able to
rejoin the Silver Helms and in the end - this cost me a table quarter!

My White Lions earned their points. Stubborn isn't as useful as
unbreakable, but it does rock! This was a close game till the end -
a couple of tactical mistakes on my part (the eagle fiasco) and a few
under-estimated charge ranges (I just didn't think they would get
there, but they did) and we ended-up 17-7. High Elf loss.

Game 2: VS Dark Elves - damn it - I just can't remember.

Another beautiful army. I was starting to think they must all look
this good! This one ended up winning "Best Painted". Composition
was very good. One Arch-mage (only two total characters), one RBT,
one chariots, 3x10 crossbow elves, a corsair unit, a dark riders
unit, a cold one Calvary unit and a unit of black guard.

Another great game - went back and forth many times. The only thing
that kept me in it was #1) High Elves are immune to panic when
fighting Dark Elves. I would have taken four panic tests in the
first turn! The game winning unit was my 15 elf Swordmaster unit
with the Prince and the magic item that makes his unit stubborn.
These guys took 5-6 charges over the course of the game. Wiped out a
dark rider unit (to a man), a mid-sized corsair unit (charged - fled -
charged again) and took another charge by some cold-one riders and
the general. In the end, all 15 Swordmaster's were dead and only the
Prince remained - he was still fighting though and this one unit held
the entire left flank alone and unsupported. Another great game -
that could have gone either way, up until the very end, however this
time it fell my way! In the strangest twist, the Archmage held my
spear elves in combat (alone) for two turns - finally fled on the
third turn, but by then had crossbow elves for support. I finally
broke the crossbow elves and charged again into the sorceress and
killed her on the fourth round of combat! Talk about a tough
sorceress!

High Elf victory 6-19.

Game 3: VS Chaos Undivided - Cliff Maxwell

A huge (for Chaos) - cal. heavy, marauder heavy Chaos army. He
didn't get his painting completed, but the minis that were done
looked excellent. I hope he finishes them up - it will be a sight to
see!

Great! Cliff and I had played a practice game, just a few weeks
before to finish tweaking our lists. That game had ended in a draw
that was slanted in his favour. I wasn't feeling confident.

Fortunately for me - things went very differently this time around.
At one point he flank-charged my Silver Helms with a unit of Chaos
knight chosen and front charged with his general. The Chosen had
clipped the front corner where my commander was stationed and three
of the front four had to attack him. The three did not manage to get
through his armour and the other chosen swooshed! The general took
down one Silver Helm, and in the end I lost by only two and made my
leadership test to hold! This allowed my swordmasters to flank
charge his chosen and eventually led to the chosen and his general
being broken and run down! Somehow I had pulled out of the worst
possible scenerio (flank charged by Chosen is bad, but add a Chaos
Hero and it is ugly) and won the combat. The game was really decided
by this battle and I can't blame Cliff for being astounded and
somewhat frustrated by the result.

High Elf victory 7-20.
