DURHAM REGION BUGFEST PAST SHOW
- 2001 Not to worry, the weatherman is usually wrong, and all was prepared and set to go. The staff at Pickering Volkswagen had moved all their cars to the back lot, tents setup, speakers and sound system hooked up, registration and sales desk ready, goodie bags all lined up in a row, BBQs getting warmed up, condiments at the ready, volunteers ready and waiting, door prizes and main draw prizes stacked in rows, awards neatly piled, everyone waiting in anticipation for the first VWs and Vendors to roll in. Well we didn't have too wait too long, in they came, one after the other, Vendors, Beetles, Busses, Ghias, Jettas, Dune Buggies, Convertibles, Rabbits, ranging from Stock to Custom. Slowly the Pickering VW dealership filled up. In all, there were 65 VWs registered, with 10 Vendors. A little disappointing, as these numbers were down from the previous years. Perhaps the date change had something to do with the small turnout, as it was two ( 2 ) months earlier than any previous year and we also had virtually little time to advertise the show properly. the reason for the earlier date, is the dealership is undergoing extensive renovations for six ( 6 ) months beginning in August 2001, therefore the change in date. On a positive note, we all still had a tremendous time, a great showing of quality VWs and Vendors, sold lots of hot dogs and hamburgers, draw tickets, 50/50 tickets, great colouring contest for the kids and great door prizes that were given out throughout the day.
