Monday: Events Leading up to the Civil War

«     Read pp. 277-290 in your textbook. Be prepared to discuss the chapter readings and the following Web sites in class on Monday and Tuesday.

·  A Nation Divided

·  President Lincoln’s First Inaugural

«     Based upon classroom discussions and chapter readings, write a one page reflection on slavery and the abolitionists during the time leading up to the Civil War. The reflection is due on Wednesday.

Wednesday: Major Battles

«     Read pp. 293-325 in your textbook. Be prepared to discuss the chapter readings and the following web sites in class on Wednesday and Thursday.

·      Battle of Gettysburg

·      Battle of Fort Sumter

«     Write a one-page paper comparing and contrasting the Battle of Gettysburg and the battle of Fort Sumter. Also, describe why the Battle of Gettysburg was a turning point in the war. The paper is due on Friday.

Friday: Resources for Research

«     Be prepared to discuss the following web sites in class on Friday.
