How to configure Desktop Themes in Windows XPThis article describes how to configure your desktop environment by using desktop themes.A desktop theme is a predefined set of window elements that help you personalize your computer to give it a distinctive appearance. Themes affect the overall appearance of your desktop, including the background, screen saver, icons, fonts, colors, windows, mouse pointers, and sounds. In Microsoft Windows XP, you can use the Windows Classic look as your theme, switch desktop themes, or modify elements of existing themes to create new themes and customize your desktop with the appearance that you want. How Do I Install Desktop Themes In XP From Zip Files? You have to manually create a "Plus!" folder in which to store your desktop themes. To do so, go to C:\Program Files\ and create a sub folder named "Plus!" Next, create a sub folder under "Plus!" named "Themes." or use this utility I found, that will make the folders for you. Use this utility. It not only makes the folder for you to install your themes, but it also makes a Desktop Themes folder in your Start Menu. Desktop Folders UtilityAfter you have made the "Plus" sub folder, and the "Themes" sub folder under Plus. Now your ready to unzip the Desktop Themes to that folder. To put Desktop Themes in XP Home Edition or Professional is easy. A box will come up asking if you want to open or save this file. You click to open the file. Then your winzip box will open and you will see .exe theme file. Now just double click on the file, and click next. The program will put the theme in "C:\Program Files\Plus!\Themes" folder that you just made, that's it. The program gives you an option to change the letter drive if you have your themes on another drive like I had. Example: E:\Program Files\Plus!\Themes. Just highlight the drive letter and change it or use your curser and backspace it and put your letter in. How Do I Pick The Desktop Themes I Want In XPTo select a different desktop theme, follow these steps:1. Click Start, click Control Panel, click Appearance and Themes, and then click Display. Or, right-click an empty area of the desktop, and then click Properties.

Royale Theme for WinXP![]() Royale Theme is a new theme, potentially destined for Windows XP, that has leaked out of Microsoft and onto the web. The theme appears to have come out of a beta version of Media Center 2005 that was in testing. The theme is not a substantially different incarnation of the existing of Luna, the current default theme for Windows XP. You can see the main changes in the screenshot to your right; one could describe it as being a 'glass mod' of Luna. As Microsoft knows, it is very hard to please everyone when it comes to themes. However, I think they can be reasonably certain that most people will like this new version of Luna. Microsoft New Zealand is making available some free desktop backgrounds for use on your computer. Includes the New Zealand version of Bliss; the world-famous directional sign in Bluff; and the theme pack for Royale. Check back each month as we add more! If you would like to preview these before downloading, visit: http://www.microsoft.com/nz/windows/bliss/default.mspx I tried the theme, and it was very easy to install in Windows XP. Pretty awesome theme to have....
