| November 12, 2003 Weekend in New York (New York isn’t just a city ya know) -So I spent last weekend in Glen Spy, New York. Before you get impressions of intrepid skyscrapers and Carson Daly on TRL, let me elucidate any ideas you had of me in New York City, New York. I was about 2.5 hours northwest of the Big Apple. And in Glen Spy you trade buildings for mountains and bumper to bumper traffic for big ol trees. It’s literally in the middle of nowhere. It’s a cute, small town-type middle of nowhere, but it’s still in the middle of nowhere. I was up visiting my young married sister who lives with her husband whom he works at a Young Life camp there called Lake Champion. She works off site from her work’s office in Virginia. Anyways, I had a really cool time. I just thought I’d extrapolate on some of the highlights. First of all, driving an SUV around all the rocky terrain was fun. Sure I love fast cars that are low to the ground. But there’s something to be said about a car that can climb steep hills and run over potholes and big rocks like they were Lego’s. The French Onion soup my sister made for dinner on Friday night was magnifique. Best soup I’ve ever had. I had fun playing SSX3 the whole weekend. Also on Friday night, we watched some of my sister’s wedding which they had converted onto a cool DVD with menus, chapter selection, and all! It was sweet. It was fun to watch. Everything went so well and trouble free. Prolly the best wedding I’ve ever been to, and I’ve been to my fair share. The ceremony was probably the best part. It was just so nice. The songs, the words, just everything went so smoothly. My sister looked so beautiful of course, and it was such a beautiful thing to be there to see her in the most important event in her whole life (heck, I almost cried when they went through all that stuff). So many friends and family, young and old, boy and girl, in the presence of our Lord and Savoir Jesus Christ (he was the star of the show, it was great), in a modest cute little church, just celebrating the union between two wonderful people. That’s the way weddings were meant to be. Truly a celebration of love and freedom that only Christ can give. My brother’s weddings song was cool too. He does such a good job in those clutch situations. It was great to see the events on DVD. That’s the way to go for wedding memories. After that we watched the first half of the Matrix, but I was tired so I went to sleep. Saturday consisted mostly of me playing SSX3 and watching DVD’s. We ate a husky dinner at the dinning hall, came back, and made a really cool bonfire right outside my sister’s house. That’s one of the advantages of living in the middle of nowhere, you can super cool bonfires. We even roasted marshmallows and made smores! Then we watched the second half of the Matrix. Then I had to field numerous questions concerning the plot and philosophy of the Matrix. I guess I’m used to that by now. (by the way if you were wondering. The got into and out of the Matrix through the phone lines because that was the only way they could “hack” into. You notice the only way they could to do that was to bring their ship to “broadcast” depth so they could broadcast radio waves to hack into the Matrix via telephone lines in the Matrix). We went to my sister’s little church on Sunday morning and ate at a cool little restaurant. Then we packed up, said goodbye, and went home. It was a restful and neato trip in conclusion. Being in the middle of nowhere has its advantages and one of those is peace and quiet, underrated in these metropolitan parts. Maybe this was a boring recollection, maybe not. I guess I just wanted to journal my activities up there. I’m still upset I didn’t see any bears this time though :( |
