Last night's The O.C.

--My friend asked me what I thought of last night's episode.   You better be prepared if you ask a question like that :)  Here's my response.

well you do know that by asking me my opinion on the show you're in for an opinion indeed...   :)

takes a deep breath...

Ok, I very much enjoyed this episode also.  The highlight of course being the spotting of not only a
Ms. Pacman arcade machine but a Galaga and a Pole Position machine! (expert note: none of the machines were actually on during the scenes I could tell, so they had people act like they were playing them.  I guess the sounds would've been annoying for the actors.) Also, what kind of ritzy, super-rich, yuppie prep school has a cafe/lounge/pool hall/arcade at their school?!?!?  Now I know the real reason Oliver transfered!
Ok, to the actual show.  Once again
Ryan proves to be my favorite character with Luke coming in a close second.  Though he does have that annoying "Ryan you don't always have to be a complete pessimist" look sometimes, his character and desire to protect Marissa no matter the cost, even at social ridicule, is very admirable.  The second highlight of the show, and I'm sure everyone will agree on this one, is when Mr. Freak-o-Dork got at "Dr. Evil" on Ryan at the end and finally Ryan popped him good a couple times.  It's been too long since Ryan pummeled at PAB, and now since Luke has converted from the Dark Side, Oliver was the only candidite for lambasting.  The unfortunate thing about that scene though was Ryan will almost assuredly get expelled now and Marissa saw him, most definitely adding fuel to the fire.  If you saw the previews for the next show though, we know Oliver's nefarious facade finally gets exposed and I'm sure Marissa will have a lot of forgiveness to ask (but come on stupid Marissa...if we can see Mr. Freak-o-Dork's real motives a million miles away, you gotta have some notion he's up to something???).  So next episode is sure to be a doozie in terms of the Bermuda love triangle.
Speaking of characters that are annoying me, that I'm starting to dislike when I initially thought they were great, and perceive in the future I will begin to hate....
Seth.  I'd loved his witty banter in the beginning but doesn't it seem to be getting a little annoying?  Sure that Danny guy wasn't funny at all, but Seth's humor has become so self-righteously cynical.  It's annoying the heck out of me and if anyone needs a good punch in the block head, it's Seth.  He's getting a little too full of himself.  And I was annoyed at how he treated Anna this episode.  Here this girl seems like the most jovial and caring person, yet Seth get's caught up in the "aesthetics" of the relationship instead of concentrating on what makes their match so great like the important things that matter in a relationship.  He takes advantage of her niceness it seems and his apathy towards their stagnance is frustrating.  I feel bad for any girl that becomes his girlfriend cause it seems like if they can't entertain him for more than a couple weeks, he's gonna ditch ya.
Oh and speaking of previews, apparently Seth loses his
virginity with Summer in the next episode.  Well I prepared myself that fornication to take place, but the way they portray his character after fact is very disheartening to me.  It's like he makes it seems like losing his virginity was just a "hurdle" to jump over and that the girl, Summer in this case, was just an object, a means to an end.  It's like he feels he "conquered" some social deficiancy and he's proud of it....gee, how superficial.  It's this PAB-ish attitude that annoys the heck out of me in real life and I'm not pleased to see it permeate to the O.C. And in Seth's apparent lustful ventures, how do you think Anna's gonna feel?  Of course she'll be devasted and her heart will be broken...and I won't be able to take the look on her face when she finds out, it will kill me....adding Seth to the list of "PABs I wanna jump-kick in the head".  And so Anna is gonna go on in life distrusting men because of the sucky and selfish way Seth treated her in her youth... BOOOO!   ...Of course this is mostly speculation of what events may perspire, but they gave a lot away.  And I know this is a popular TV show so I shouldn't expect them to be any different from the rest of the shows out there, but I always though Seth was different; like that he was an actually authentic "nice guy".  I guess I was wrong and he's just puts up a nice guy front, but apparantly he's one of them track and field guys...just wanting to jump hurdles and stuff.  I hate those guys...
Like I said before, I like Luke more and more each episode.  I wish Ryan gave him the "word".  I would've loved to have seen a Luke/Oliver showdown!
Sandy and Jimmy's venture side-story was alright.  I'm actually interested to see how their restaurant business turns out...I like those guys and hope they succeed.  I didn't care much for the Julie-Kirsten side-story.  I guess interior design and the such ain't my thing.  Plus Julie just gets on my nerves...she's what you call a F-PAB (female PAB).
Anyways, I am looking forward to next episode and then again I'm not.  I'll probably watch the rerun episode next week cause that was a good one.  I hope I didn't bored you with my little review.  I get attached emotionally to that show and I'm sure it shows.  Ok, I'm gonna get back to work!

***Oh yeah, just in case you were wondering, and I'm sure you were :), the
Playstation 2 game that Seth and Danny were playing was Dynasty Warriors 4.  Seth's video game prowess is one of his saving graces...but they're getting less and less each week.
