April 1, 2004 In the nicest possible inquiry...how the heck do “unplanned” pregnancies occur?! I’m merely confused. This article on CNN.com “Study: ‘Morning after pill’ doesn’t alter teen sex” prompted me to think about this. It’s not really associated with my inquiry per se but it got me thinking. *And before you decry my ignorant, prideful, and uncompassionate inquiry, please read the points that I make and then decide if my dumbfounded inquiry is that far fetched. **Also, my knowledge on reproductive issues and woman’s health is novice at best. Please email me and correct me where I’m wrong. I admit my errors in advance. -Ok, though I didn’t learn that the “Birds and the Bees” was merely a phantom title and façade for explaining to one about human reproduction, sex, etc. until I was 23 (yes, it was that recent), I did learn how babies were made and what have you by about 16 (I actually thought all this time there was an actual “Birds and Bees” story I had yet to hear. I mean I knew it had to do with sex and stuff, but I thought there was a real story involving little birds and bees with plotline and everything. Naive? why yes I am). Anyways, despite my elementary knowledge of sex and what have you, I do know there are certain criteria that need to be meant for a baby to be made. Let’s identify these circumstantial critiria: 1. Intercourse must take place between a male and female -Human reproduction is a heterosexual process. You need a male and female to make a baby. We do not propagate asexually nor homosexually; either process would ultimately lead to human extinction (proceed past green text SideThought if you want to continue number1) (SideThought(it’s long): I find this highly ironic considering the Darwinian evolutionary model rests solely on organisms’ natural mechanisms to accept mutations and actions that benefit the propagation and influx of a species. If one subscribes to the Darwinian evolutionary model, they must also deny homosexuality as a natural component of our humanness, or the notion that people are “born with it” because it is direct contradiction of the “survival of the fittest” evolutionary mentality. Homosexuality hardly creates a robust reproduction mechanism within a species to optimally advance itself and ensure the survival of its species from an evolutionary standpoint. Otherwise their logic is deeply flawed and their intellectual reasoning is foundationless. The only other option is to accept creation as originating from a transcendental Creator. Assuming that Creator is the one described in the Bible, homosexuality advocates are caught in a precarious situation concerning their lifestyles and accompanying justifications of being “born with it”. The Bible clearly condemns the act of homosexuality, reducing its participation to sin against God and his intended creation. Homosexuality advocates only have one option at this point and that is to say the “traditional” interpretations of the numerous passages involving homosexuality in the Bible are false. These audacious claims fly in the face of almost everything the Bible stands for in terms of ceasing our weasel-like attempts to neglect responsibility for our sin, admitting our sin and hopeless attempts at righteousness through our own actions, and declaring we need help from only Jesus. Any other rationalizations or justifications merely act as smokescreens to conceding the natural fact that every moral action has a consequence. So the stance that traditional interpretations of homosexuality are wrong holds little logical clout if one accepts the underlying theology of the Bible. Considering the aforementioned points, we’re left with one description of the prevalence of homosexuality within the human species; a conscious choice of action. The Darwinian evolutionary model cannot explain it and in fact, in its most pure and authenticated form, predicts a completely heterosexual community! As mentioned before, the only explanation of homosexuality within humans is that a transcendental Creator did in fact create Creation. And that that Creator instilled a mechanism of free will within us humans, giving us the choice to reject or accept his plan for life. The act of homosexuality would then obviously be lumped into the category of “rejection”, just as all other sins are, according to the Bible. Homosexuality advocates could go even further though, claiming Darwinian evolution is indeed fact, and though the act of homosexuality within a heterosexually reproductive species like that of humans goes against its predictions, humans choose to go against it by continually committing homosexual acts. And because naturalistic evolution has no standards of ethics and moral foundation which to build upon, the Biblical notion that homosexuality is wrong goes the way of the Dodo in that case. Yet homosexuality advocates are still left with the sobering fact that that proclamation admits homosexuality is still a choice and not merely a product of genetic progression. Unfortunately for them though, Darwinian evolution has no plausible and testable explanation for the emergence of the unique human quality we know as moral choice. Some sort of “moral” standard exists, and has existed in every society and culture from the beginning of civilization. In conclusion, I think the only reasonable and logical explanation for the existence of homosexuality within our species is that we humans tend to stray from the divine purposes we were designed for to pursue our own selfish interests. We want to be our own gods. We even go so far as to seek any loophole, theological or psuedo-scientific, from even admitting divine purposes and a Divine exist! Our sin is a direct rebellion against God and his plan for our lives, and though homosexuality is no different in terms of spiritual consequence, it too fits into the category as choice-driven sin. Any justification claiming homosexuality to not be offense to the God of the Bible does not hold up to Biblical scholarship, honest theology, logical sense, and testable science.) 2. A female egg must be fertilized by male sperm. -The path must be clear for a female’s eggs to be fertilized. Meaning no restrictive components can be employed like that of a condom or other preventative device. 3. A female must be within her time of fertility -Please correct me if I’m wrong on this, but it’s my understanding that due to a woman’s menstrual cycle, her eggs are only fertile, or “ready” for fertilization, for a certain period of time each month. This involves words like “ovulation” and others like it that I don’t like hear about. It’s also my understanding that that period of time is limited, in the order of 5-7? days?? (when I write a “?” that means I really don’t know for sure) I could be completely off on this assessment, but I could’ve sworn I read this somewhere. 4. A women must not be on “the pill” -Not sure exactly what “the pill” is, but apparently woman, usually married?, take a pill? every so often that prevents her reproductive system from reproducing (I think I learned this from watchin Boyz N’da Hood, a Spike Lee joint). Therefore, for fertilization to take place, this “pill” must not be in action. Now taking into account the four major criteria involved, how in the heck do unplanned pregnancies occur!?!?! I mean serious, these four criteria are not that hard to prevent to meet. 1) I mean consider the first one. Now I’m no sexual health physician or educator or anything and in an attempt to remain mature and objective about all this, there are locales a male can go apart from a females “hot spot” to have an orgasm. And without getting into specifics about processes that take place only seen under a microscope, let’s just be honest and say if you’re gonna do it, you don’t necessarily have to do it “textbook”, especially if having a kid isn’t on your daily list of things to do. Ok, that was a little awkward to talk about...but ya know, sometimes bluntness is needed concerning this topic. 2) Now consider the second criteria, one we’re all familiar with; safe sex. I mean come on guys (I’m not even getting into the penultimate stages of PABdom you’re getting into at this point), but how can you not wear a condom when you’re not interested in making a kid?!?! I mean this seems like the easiest and almost most mundane action you could take! You can’t sit here and tell me your animal inhibitions have that much power over you’re logic. I don’t buy that. Heck, I hear there are even “condoms” for a girl. I have no idea how that would work, but ok. This knowledge doesn’t bode well for owner’s of unplanned pregnancies in retrospect. So apparently it’s not the guy’s fault completely. 3) The third criteria boggles the mind how so many “unplanned” pregnancies occur. Yet not only do they occur, they occur a lot! I mean if a girl at least knows ballpark if she’s “primed” to be impregnated, and it’s my understanding girls are fully aware of their “cycles”, how in the heck can they allow themselves to get into a situation that could potentially lead into said impregnation?! Are you telling me girls are that insecure?! That they’re willing to play Russian Roulette for the sake of some bastard PAB!?!? Come on girls, I know you got more self-confidence and security than that....come on... What’s even more sobering about this knowledge is the fact that apparently 80% or so of the month a girl isn’t “fertile”. Observing the quantity of “unplanned” pregnancies, that means either people are having a lot of sex, or that owner’s of unplanned or aborted children have the absolute worst luck. ....I guess I figure if a couple does it once and gets away with it, they’ll do it again, and again, and again...much like as children, and adults, we test the limits of our stupidity to get as close to fire as possible without getting burned. BURNINATOR!!! good ol Trogdor 4) It’s my understanding that “the pill” is a common thing among women. Apparently most, if not all women know about it and its effects, so there can be no excuses that it’s a niche or esoteric type of product. Considering the apparent effectiveness of “the pill”, how can women who aren’t planning of carrying an alien inside them for 9 months, or killing it, whichever, not be on it?!?! Mind boggling. Ok I’m finished with my insensitive, uncompassionate, ignorant, egotistical, prideful, and some would say sinful explanation at why I’m so dumbfounded that unplanned pregnancies occur at the rate that they do. And though you’re current view on my views may pin me as a non-Christian bigot, please consider my aforementioned points and observations. I believe once you consider them with a sense of common you will realize how many ill-advised decisions, and lack thereof, that not only one but two people must make to make a baby without prior consideration. I’m not here to condemn, because I’m just as prone to this blunder as the next insanely sexually driven young male. But Satan dammit! I’m going to do my darndest to prevent my ugly, lustful, destructive, and sinful nature get the best of me. Aside from moral enlightenment and spiritual issues, I believe I’ve brought to light enough pragmatic circumstances to warrant enough of a purely logical response to all this. I’ve neglected spiritual issues and even emotional issues on purpose here because there is not enough space to include them. Even from a purely practical outlook to this topic, the fact that unplanned pregnancies occur at the rate they do is phenomenal, that’s all I’m saying. Ok Keith, you’re good at identifying the problems and making people feel bad about themselves, all whilst maintaining a false sense of righteousness or that you’re “better” than the persons that have failed in this area. But what good is identifying a problem if you can’t provide a solution??? I’ll admit, my human pride creeps up on me on issues like this, which, only by God’s grace of course; I’ve not failed in....yet. And I am not proud of that pride, for my sin already is good enough for a eternal ticket to Hell. And if you’re a regular reader of my material you already know my proposed answer to all this, both practically and relationally. You can start here if you’re not familiar. And I know anyone that’s had an unplanned pregnancy will say it’s not as easy as I say and that things a so much more complicated. Ok fine, I’ve never been there so I don’t know. In fact, I’m saying of this out of ignorance...so don’t listen to me then. And please, if down the road I do indeed impregnate a girl unwantingly, don’t decry me as a hypocrite and idiot. I already am a hypocrite and idiot. My sin everyday proves that. And I’m attesting to the fact that I have a good chance of failing in this area, so I’m basically already admitting I’m gonna fail sexually in one way or another. It’s my destiny to fail sexually really. But in some weird, incomprehensible and loving way, God desires me not to fail, and even though he has no obligation to, he even gives me tools to not only defeat sexual temptation when it comes, but to overcome it! Gee, that Jesus, what a nice guy :) “For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are–yet was without sin.” –Hebrews 4:15 “No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.” –Romans 8:37 -I’d venture a guess that my reader’s either really hate me, really love me, or really love me and get really irked when I say some of the things I say. |
