Secret Service Presidential Limousine

-This might be one of the coolest perks I’ve had since working as a federal contractor at the United States Secret Service Headquarters in downtown Washington D.C. The other day I got to tour one of the actual Presidential Limousines!  How cool is that?!
The Secret Service employs about 6 of these tanks on wheels at one time for the sole purpose of transporting the
President to and from places on the ground, usually short distances.  And when I say tanks on wheels, I mean tanks on wheels.  Boy do these babies have some serious armor!  The one you see in the picture below doesn’t do justice the secure plating and measures these machines have.  Though they’re based on a basic GM Cadillac design, they’ve been completely proprietarily and classifiably re-designed by the Secret Service to accommodate and protect the most important person the planet.  The doors themselves are so reinforced with bulletproof and blastproof materials, it takes almost two men to open them.  They’re like vault doors.  The car must weigh over 10,000 lbs easy. The glass is like 4 inches thick and the complete underbelly of the car is armor plated also.  I did get to see the inside also and it’s not as extravagant as you’d think; mostly just the bare necessities for the Commander-in-Chief.  No widescreen monitors, killer sound systems, or Playstation 2’s.
Anyways, it was really cool to take a tour of the super limo.  It’s neat also to know that they’re garaged in a secure parking garage a couple floors below where I work all day.
