Since
the demonstration against the WTO (World Trade Organisation) in Seattle
(November 1999) there have been similar mobilisations all over the
world. The “anti-globalisation movement”, like it is usually
referred to, grew to become a platform for various organisations.
Although these organisations work around very different subjects, they
find each other in this movement because every single one of them places
the responsibility for the existing world problems at the expense of
globalised capitalism or at least aspects of it.
- As
Marxists we have, already for decades, consistently put forward the
argument that capitalism is not able anymore to develop society in the
interest of the majority of humanity. Obviously we are delighted with
the revitalisation of the anti-capitalist struggle, we follow it
closely and participate in it. On the other hand we also think we can
provide an exclusive contribution to the rich discussion that goes on in
this new movement. True, there are already tons of sites, books,
pamphlets and articles devoted to the anti-globalisation protest.
However, our aim is first and foremost to reach people who are searching
their way in this forest of publications and want to find a consistent,
balanced and tested method witch provides a trustworthy tool to analyse
and fight today’s global capitalism.
- Finally,
we want to stress the necessity to provide this movement with a program
that formulates an alternative to capitalism and is connected with the
everyday class struggle. A unified struggle of all emancipative powers
beyond national boundaries is a first step. Now it is time to open the
discussion about what is going to replace capitalism.
- According
to our possibilities we will also provide eyewitness accounts of
different demonstrations and other actions taking place all over the
world.
