I believe that an office that administrates our county court system is of utmost importance in this election.  $130 million in revenue per year is paid through the Clerk of Courts office.  If the office were a private business, these funds would make it the 32nd largest business in the entire Cincinnati area.  The personnel of the Clerk of Courts office have responsibilities in Municipal courts, both civil and criminal.  Their duties include arrests, transportation of prisoners, evictions and courtroom security.

Most importantly, the Clerk of Courts must respectfully and thoughtfully balance the public's right to know with an individual's right to privacy.  The Clerk must lead with the highest ethical standards.  Your Clerk of Courts must be committed to protecting your privacy rights in public records.
Did you know that in 2003, the Federal Trade Commission recieved 516,740 consumer complaints, with 214,905 concerning identity theft?  Did you know that victims of Internet related fraud reported losses of almost $200,000,000 in 2003?

And, did you know that the Clerk of Courts office  in Hamilton County is publishing your sensitive information like Social Security Numbers and bank account numbers on the Internet?  We can no longer afford to be reckless with the sensitive information of the people of Hamilton County, and I am running for Clerk of Courts because I believe you deserve something better.  The Clerk of Courts must be committed to protecting your privacy rights because identity theft is a growing problem in our society.  The Internet has made it easier than ever before for criminals to get your sensitive information.

We have a problem in the Clerk of Courts office today.  We have a Clerk of Courts website that publishes your sensitive personal information like social security numbers and bank account numbers on court records and traffic tickets.  They publish them on an insecure and virtually unmoderated site.  We have a Clerk of Courts office that believes an Internet Task Force devoid of Internet security experts is sufficient to address issues of privacy raised by the citizens of this county.  We have a Clerk of Courts office that brags about millions of hits on the Clerk's website every year and has yet to become suspicious of the practice of data mining that can download hundreds of records in a matter of minutes.

There can be no guaranteed right to privacy without a Clerk of Courts who will rely on the local knowledge base in Internet security, public policy and law to protect us in our most private and most vulnerable arenas.
The Problem
The Solution
Once you give me the honor of serving you, I will assemble a true Internet Privacy Task Force committed to action, comprised of knowledgeable experts and dedicated to protecting our privacy and ensuring liberty in our court system.

This Task Force will immediately get to work when we take office on January 5, reviewing the current system and making a recommendation to the Office of the Clerk of Courts as to how we can best ensure security and privacy while embracing 21st century technology.  Not only will this Task Force be comprised of knowledgeable people, but it will also take swift action before your records are compromised any further.  It will present a solution that is in line with the Ohio Revised Code.  It will protect your right to privacy.

I will act boldly to address this issue and I will make your private information off limits to those who have no right to access it.  Our first one hundred days will mark an end to the inaction and weak promises from the Clerk of Courts office of Hamilton County.

I will work to establish the highest standards of communication with our citizens, to ensure that the court system is open and accessible.  You deserve leaders who are engaged and committed to knocking on doors and sending letters to find out what we can do better.  If I must personally go to every community meeting in this county, I will do so to make sure that commitment is being upheld.

I am asking that you walk with me and believe again in something better.  I am asking for your support, your votes and your commitment to seeing this race all the way to the end and to victory in November!
