History of Fleet Air Reconnaissance Squadron Two (VQ-2), Tail Code JQ, Call Sign Ranger VQ-2 was commissoned on 1 September 1955 as Electronic Countermeasurres Squadron Two (ECMRON Two). Originally home ported at the U.S. Naval Air Station, Port Lyautey, Morocco. In January 1960, the squadron transferred to Naval Station, Rota Spain and was renamed Fleet Air Reconnaissance Two (VQ-2). In July 2005 the squadron relocated to Naval Air Station, Whidbey Island, Washington. Over the years the squadron has flown the P2V, the P4M-1Q, the EC-121M Super Constellation, several versions of the A3 Skywarrior, the A3D, the A3D-1Q, A3D-2Q, the EA-3B, the TA-3B and the UA-3B. And several versions of the P-3 aircraft the P-3A, P-3B and P-3C and the EP-3E. |
