This web page is intended to through some light on Srivaishnavism
as propounded
by SriRamanuja a 11th century saint from Tamilnadu.
The essence of visishtawdhvaitha is explained thus:
vasthuthasthu vaedhawnthawnawm chidh-achidh-visishtawdhvaitham ekamaeva
brahmam ithi thawthparyam.athayaeva chidh-achidh-visishtam brahma
ekamaevaethi mathvaw bhagavawn bhadarawyana: athawthow brahma jignyawsaw
ithi upakramya thadhaeva saprakawram niroopithavawn.atha:chidhachidh
visishta:brahmashabhdha vawchya vishnavawkya:para vawsudaevo nawrawyana
aevaikam ithi visishtawdhvaitha vawdhinawm dharshanam ithi sidhdham
The essence of vedanta has in its purport the unity of brahman
qualified by that which can be perceived & that which cannot.Badarayana
with the aim of establishing brahman as supreme began his inquiry &
explained that brahman as having modes,Thus narayana with the supreme
form as vasudeva known by the name vishnu indicated by the term brahman
& qualified by chit & achit is the only reality.& This is the philosophy
of visishtawdhvaitha.
This is a philosophy of self characterised by oneness & by attributes of
perception(visishta). The three entities which he visualises are chit
(individual soul)achit(nature)& ishvara(The self).He calls this as
tatva thraya.Their distinctness & correlation form the philosophy of
visishtawdhvaitha.
