This lesson will be 2 parts, first working with and manipulating textures, the second will be revolutions and how to make them. You will need either to download textures from picture links below or to make or find 2 of your own. The first should be a wood grain with a nice grain design. The second should have 3 textures stacked on top of each other, each taking 1/3 of the jpg's total space. (To take the jpgs off web to save to your computer right click them, then save picture as (wood17.jpg)or (candy.jpg) to your c:/programs/spazz3d or c:/programs/anfy3d.)I think textures and revolutions are some of the funner things to work with, at the end of the lesson I hope you feel the same.
Texture Tab
Make a cube, open properties and tab over to texture, use the wood17.jpg. Imagine if you stretched the cube the bigger it got, the grainer the jpg would look. To counter act that in your texture tab you can make several tiles of your texture by using the scale settings, scale it to 2 and 4. (Now the design is more intricate.) Rotate it to 60, your spazz may not show the actual look of your texture you may need to launch browser.
(Note: The rest of the boxes in this window are pretty self explanitory, Center will drag the center of the texture over and Translate will move it around. The next example will help you see how to use them. At first you will want to try this on only simple shapes like cylinders and cubes, it is difficult to do with spheres or intricate designs.)Start a new file and place in it 3 cylinders. Starting with the first one bring up your texture tab and texture it with candy.jpg. Now all 3 textures are on the same cylinder, by scaling it to 2 and .29. Then moving translations to .046 and 1 you will have just the top section of candy on there.
Click the drag buttons and move it to fit, remember you may need to lauch browser to see how it truly looks. If the texture doesn't fit properly you can edit the scale or move the translations. Now you can texture the other boxes with the same texture just change the translation till the candy type you want is showing.
Push the revolutions button
Making revolutions should be thought of as a computers potter's wheel. You are telling the computer what the one half of the outside looks like and it automatically draws all the way around for you.A new widow will open up, you can expand it for a grid or draw free hand.
(NOTE: I have found with revolutions it is just as easy to draw free hand, then size later. One important note here it is important that your design go ON the middle line or you will end up with a hole in your node. Click Snap to Grid button top and bottom points.) (Note2: Make a ring or donut shape by placing a square, triangel or circle shape to one side of the center line make sure it is out a little bit.)
Button
Buttons from left to right, top to bottom.
Add to end: adds a point to the end of your design.
Insert: adds a point in the middle of two other points.
Move: moves the point by dragging.
Delete: deletes points.
Update solid and close window: places your solid design on working area and closes window.
Close: closes the remaining points.
Show Grid: shows working grid in outline box.
Snap to Grid: snaps point to nearest grid corner.
