This is the Home Page for Viscount Gaius Marcellus Liberius Auklandus. If this doesn't make sense, you're not in the Society for Creative Anachronism. If you are, you'll understand when I tell you I live in the Kingdom of the West. Mundanely, that's the Bay Area, CA.

Viscount Gaius is a knight that traveled with Richard Coeur de Lion, King Richard the Lionhearted of England. Gaius claims the Viscounty his family had held since before the Conquering. (Gaius' Viscounty goes back to the fall of Rome when his g'g'g'g'g'g'g'granther was a Viscomes to the last Dux Bellorum Britanium). The family home is in Northeast England, around Bishop Auckland.

CAIVS MARCELLVS LIBERIVS AVKLANDVS joined the SCA in October 1976 in Washington, D.C. (What is now the Barony of Ponte Alto; it was then the Shire of Aster, Northern Virginia. CAIVS was the first shire herald of Aster). Shortly after I joined, the Principality of Atlantia was formed. I was apprenticed to the first Triton Principality Herald, Mistress Moira Maureen ua Seamus, OL, and became the first Precedence herald of the Principality.

In 1980 I moved to California and became a Westerner. 1985 was a GOOD year for me. In January, at Twelfth Night, I was raised to the Order of the Laurel. In March, I won the Coronet of the Mists and became a Viscount in November. My knighthood came along in April of 1987, after achieving the finals of Western Crown List (for the first time; I did it again in June of 1987). Finally, I was made a member of the Order of the Pelican in June, 2002. From August 2002 through May 2004, I was Vesper Principal Herald of the Kingdom of the West. I am currently in nomination for the SCA Board of Directors.

For various reasons, I left the West in June of 1988 and returned in January, 2001. I've lived in the East (Settmour Swamp, Marwick, and Ostgardr), Atlantia (Storvik and Lochmere), Meridies (South Downs), the West again (Mists), Ansteorra (Steppes), the East (Broken Bridge, Settmour Swamp, and Rusted Woodlands) again, the West/Cynagua, again, Caid, and back again in the West.
