The aim of any education, in general is to prepare a better person and the Catholic education aims to make one a better person and to provide guidance to lead a Christian way of life- one of patience, kindness, grace, humility, obedience, honesty and righteousness. Neither the knowledge is to be considered as a means for material prosperity and success, nor the teachings of the Son and Saints as an end by itself. Knowledge prepares a man to serve and be responsible for others. The Holy teachings are a means for improving our quality of life. Wasn't the Son a Greatest teacher of all times? " Search in the scriptures. For in them ye think ye have an eternal life " (John 5:39) In Catholic education, the human insight is combined with the divine revelation. I view that the Catholic education combines the best of both worlds. a. the world of knowledge, the training of which prepares a person better suited to the demands of today's world ( demands in terms of skill, knowledge, know-how etc), and b. the world of Catholicism, the underlying thread of life providing religious support to face the trials and tribulations in life and also to guide how one's life should be led. For Jesus himself has shown how life is to be led. " Those things which ye have both learned and received and heard and seen in me, do; and the God of Peace shall be with you" ( Philippians 4:9) In our day of twentyfour hours, eight are spent sleeping ( sure the body needs its rest), and another eight are spent in the school, while the last eight are spent with parents, siblings and friends. What better way can there be, other than the Catholic education, to tie the two slots of our wakeful hours to provide us knowledge and training in leading a Christian way of life EVERYDAY. 4/7/01 |
