to Vivian's Humble Little Site!

First, the reason for the creation of this website: a compulsory project
required by one of the modules, Business Information System of my part-time
course in Spore Institute of Management.
But it was also a good time for me to
gather my thoughts about a few major happenings in my life. So please
rest assured that you will be reading something that are non-frictional but
real life events. I would also appreciate it if you can kindly drop a
line in my guestbook after you have "walk
briefly through my life".. Xia Xia Ni.
"ABOUT MYSELF"!! What a topic, one that I had been "bombarded" since
Primary school's English composition, even my Secondary school teachers asked
for it too. Every year
I seem to be writing about the same stuff except that each new year, I had new
"experiences" to spice up the writing. So now, after a span of
more than 20 years since my first composition, I am pleased to present to you
..... Story of Vivian Tan (bio-data).....
First, let me do a BRIEF INTRODUCTION of myself.... in different phases of my
life on Planet Earth so far.
That great desire to see the world has to be somewhat linked to my childhood
days. Then, living in attap house till secondary school, I had seen and went
through many interesting events that some of my peers might not have the privilege
to experience
before..... I would fold paper boats and put them on the narrow but filled
to-the-brim drain that was outside my kitchen after a
heavy downpour. The sight of seeing my boats floated away in such a sway would
always bring a smile on my face..... I would often stare hard into the starry skies at night, and always wonder
how's life on the other side of the world. Question like, since the earth is round, how
could
people standing 180 degree from my location and not fallen
off into the outer space? Even though we did have a TV at home then, but most of the programmes that I
could
remember were the Hong Kong and Taiwanese serial shows, so it was not a very
educational tool as nowadays. You could imagine how glad I was when I
learnt about gravity - answer to my question!
One morning, I wake up with a beautiful
DREAM. I saw Jupiter and
Mars paying a visit to our kampong and they were shaped like gigantic marble
balls, swinging passed
our backyard. That dream was significant because that morning was
somewhat eventful in the
history of mankind, when all the planets lined up in alignment with the sun in the solar
system. And I really saw 3 bright stars in the sky that dawn in a
straight line. (What happened to the other 7, I really did not
know). My intuition told me that they are the Sun, Jupiter and Mars (why?
'cos I saw them in my freshly-baked dream, ha.. ha...).
I was also rather tom-boy, fighting with boys in my neighbourhood. But
don't be mistaken, I also played "ma-sak-ma-sak" with my girl
friends... catching spiders among the bushes, but I still cannot appreciate the
fighting spirits among them inside the matchboxes yet.....
Read about My
Childhood Days.....
I was very popular in primary school days too, not because I was the "school flower" or the "smart Alex" type,
but I simply stood out more prominently among my peers in term of my physique and a sinewy vocal. In my first Chinese lesson in Primary Six, the Chinese
teacher, Mrs Yeo asked me whether I was the small girl who cried very loudly during
assembly six years ago. Wow, she remembered me! Then I was the "cry-pao"
who would cry when I was forced to go to school. One fine
afternoon in school, I
simply refused to go for the assembly and started to HOWL in the midst of moving
lines of students getting into classes. I cried so loudly and wildly that a concerned teacher approached me to ask me what I wanted.
Later she led me to the Principal room to
make a free call home. That was it, after being comforted by a familiar
voice from home, I stopped crying. And to
think that after all those years, she could still remember that "crying
monument" believed to be the only one in the history of that
primary school.
Want to know more of my "silly acts" in those
school days?
Ever since I started to work, my very first determination was to travel
around the globe, wow what a big dream, big because whatever expenses that came
out was from my hard earned savings. Despite of my miserable & initial
wages, I forced myself to save $100 per month and gave tuition to
hasten my first overseas trip. And guess.... CHINA... was the country that first made me hop into a plane. Magnificent
Great Wall versus the scary exploration to my father's hometown on our own. It was one of the most unforgettable 11-hour period in my life, because I don't think anyone would have such a catastrophe experience considering my first time in a foreign land. So that was my first and last horrid move? No,
almost every trips that I made, I brought back some exceptional remembrances
that still had its creepiness behind my minds. But I must be quick to say
that they were balanced with some fond thoughts too.
Walk through those travelling
adventures with me now.
