This was the third play I did tech for at Randolph Union High School.
The Man Who Came To Dinner is about a famous writer named Sheridan Whiteside (Ben Wright) who goes to dinner at Mr. And Mrs. Stanley (Nick McPhetres and Tricia Preston) falls on their Mesalia, Ohio door step and breaks his hip, forcing him and his secretary, Maggie Cutler (Claire Garner) to stay at the Stanley's for months. When Doctor Bradley (Ryan Anderson) reveals his mistake in mixing up the X-Rays, Mr. Stanley forces Whiteside out of his house and Ms. Cutler to fall in love with and marry ;ocal journalist Bert Jefferson (Thackery Brown).

For this play, I helped alot with the scenery, and working on the set when I wasn't doing lighting stuff. I learned how to make a lightplot, and then I hung lights and focused them. Then I went to the lightboard every rehearsal and made cues and just made it look good. When the show came around, I had about 35 cues during the play and I ran lightboard. This was a very boring job tech rehearsals and shows, but during the regular rehearsals it payed off by just watching it, and hanging out with friends.
I really like doing lights, and I know alot about lighting and the lightboard now from working at Chandler in addition to the school drama program. Next year, I plan on designing the light plot on my own, and running light board. Senior year, I will most likely have to train new people to do lights, and I will probably be stage manager because the other techies are graduating next year. |
