More Holiday Contests from the Vermont TOPS Tidbits Archives
Healthy Food Basket- Each week between Thanksgiving and Christmas, ask members to bring in a healthy non-perishable food item (sugar-free Jello or pudding, fruit packed in juice, whole-wheat crackers, etc).   Put them all in a box decorated with Christmas wrap, or in a basket.  At the last meeting before Christmas, draw a winner for the box.  Members must earn chances to be in the drawing. Each TOPS member weighing in with a loss and each KOPS weighing in at or below goal gets an entry.  The weekly best loser gets an additional entry.  A TOPS member who has a loss each week or a KOPS who never goes above goal gets a bonus entry. Christmas Basket-The chapter should purchase a decorated Christmas basket.  To join the contest, each member brings in a non-perishable item ($1 - $2) for the Christmas basket.  Suggested items could be candles, bath items, ornaments, etc.  The contest should run for six weeks, ending right before Christmas.  At the end of the contest, one name will be drawn to win the basket.  The more entries you have, the better your chances of winning. Each week, you will have an opportunity for three entries.  You will receive one entry for weighing in.  TOPS who weigh in with a loss or KOPS who weigh in at or below goal get an additional entry.  You can earn a third entry by exercising 60 minutes or more during the week.
Trim Your Tree- This is a good team contest.  Purchase two small artificial Christmas trees (more than two might be needed for a large chapter) and an assortment of miniature ornaments.  Divide your members into teams.  Each week, after members weigh in, ornaments will be added to the team's tree.  TOPS members earn an ornament for each week they have a loss.  If they gain, they have to remove an ornament.  KOPS earn an ornament for being at or below goal.  If they are out of leeway, they have to remove an ornament.  A TOPS who turtles, or a KOPS above goal, but in leeway, does nothing.  At the end of the contest, count the number of ornaments on each tree.  The team with the most wins and can be given free dues for a week or something else the chapter chooses.  A cheaper way to do this contest is by using poster board trees and paper or foam ornaments that are attached using tape or Velcro so they can be removed if necessary.
Christmas Ornament Contest- Choose the length of time the contest will run.  At the start of the contest, each member is given an ornament to hang on the tree.  TOPS who lose or turtle and KOPS who are at or below goal keep their ornaments on the tree.  If you are a TOPS who gains or a KOPS above goal, your ornament comes off the tree.  At the end of the contest, all those whose ornaments are still on the tree receive a small prize.
Christmas Auction-  Everyone who wishes to participate in the contest brings in one wrapped item.  All the items will be auctioned at the end of the contest, but can only be purchased using TOPS money earned.  Make up some TOPS dollars using your computer or copy real money on a copier and reduce the size.  Each week, members earn money as follows:

TOPS with a loss or KOPS at or below goal- $2
TOPS who turtle or KOPS above goal, but in leeway- $1
Bring in a completed food diary- $1
Bring in a healthy holiday recipe to share- $1
Contact another member- $1
Exercise at least 3 days for 30 minutes a day- $1
Being the best loser of the week- $1
Sign up to do a program or plan a contest- $1

Run the contest for 4-6 weeks.  At the end, members use their dollars earned to bid on the wrapped items.
