VU-10 Aircraft
This VU-10 Vet was the main "Work Horse" of the Squadron for many years.

Fleet gunnery practice and radar tracking was the Jig Dog's forte'
Four hour hops were the norm.

During my tour we had two major wrecks, plus a few minor mishaps. One mid-air collision with an F6F. resulting in two fatalities.
The FJ3 was, in her day,"The Hottest thing Going"
Based across the bay at Leeward Point, I remember the FJ hauling air to air  banners.
On one occasion, as I recall, A young ENS. over shot the target and slammed a few rounds into the tow plane.
The pilot, LT Brady, brought the little lady home, but had to eject over the salt flats
.
The F8U-1 replaced the FJ3 in the early sixties.

As for this beauty, John relates, These aircraft were pretty well beat when we received them, But what the heck, we were a
VU, not a VF.
This is one of the first F4H "Phantom's to arrive at Gitmo.
