Vulcan’s Forge General Meeting Minutes March 14th, 2002 Present: Ron Davis, Dennis Sweeney, Patty Lawson, Barbara Ray, Jenny Bauer, Sarah Gallant We welcomed Barbara Ray back, who has not been around for awhile. Barb said she’s feeling better physically and has gotten some exercises to do for her legs and feet… WELCOME BACK, Barbara …we’ve missed you!!..:) Opening the meeting was an announcement of the Bake and Craft sale at Central Clinic in May. Patty and Sarah both said they would check on the availability of more tables for the artists. Barbara Ray said she’d like to attend the sale and bring some others to see. Jenny asked about the location of Central Clinic...Detailed information about this sale will be in the April VF minutes . }Update: I have checked with Bea Newman who said because of the other function at Central Clinic that day they will be using all of the tables. Artists must indeed bring their own tables for display. She said they could be brought the day before and stored overnight…Sarah} Ron Davis brought in many new jewelry creations to share with the group…earrings that were round and covered entirely with seed beads he strung and then wrapped around the globe/base ..beautiful mauve colored rose buds Ron fashioned from “craft mesh”…a pair of mother of pearl crescent moons with beads dangling from them, and a beautiful wire wrap copper bracelet…just to name a few. Patty Lawson brought in her sketch book with filled with a variety of drawings some of which she’ll eventually paint. Everything from sea shells, to abstract Indian designs; Suns with a variety of faces and emotions, and portraits of her Mom. Patty also told us she has begun the portrait of her daughter as ballerina. Sarah shared a computer print of a colored pencil drawing called “Company of Crows”. She hopes to have copies made and available for sale at the Craft and Bake sale in May. Jenny shared her the canvas tote she had just made across the hall in “Lunch, Arts and Crafts” group; in beautifully colored shades of dimensional paint with her name, flowers and other designs. Dennis, Patty, Jenny and Sarah talked briefly about the Global Art Project that some members will be participating in. Jenny said she had given Doreen Stenger a flag she made for the project. All of us participating will be creating a hand with our Global Unity Message and bringing it on Thursday, March 21st so that we can see what we have and decide how to put it together. Cecelia Shooner could not be at the meeting due to a very bad cold, but confirmed that she entered us and paid the $20 fee. Those of us participating will reimburse Cecelia. Dennis said he may not be able to attend the meeting, but will bring his hand into Recovery Initiative on Thursday. We adjourned the meeting, so Ron Davis could begin his first jewelry class. Patty and Dennis and Barbara could not stay. Jenny and Sarah attended the first class. Ron explained a lot about different types of wire and showed us examples of the wires. He showed us tools he uses to make different wire shapes and gave us a demonstration of how this works. He showed us the different samplings of beads and stones he brought…and what a selection!…everything from semi-precious chips, glass, wood, pendants with figures, and we could choose what we’d like to make. Jenny made some earring with rose quartz stones encased with a silver wire. They came out beautifully. Sarah decided to try making spirals with a very cool tool she’d never seen before...and is still in the process of deciding what to make..it was a great experience and hope that many more will attend Ron’s second class directly following the 12 NOON Steering Committee on March 21st. respectfully submitted, Sarah Gallant Back |
