Vulcan’s Forge Steering Committee Meeting December, 2001 PRESENT: Fred Zimmerman, Philip Hasty, Sarah Gallant, Patricia Reynolds, Patty Lawson, Cecelia Shooner, Lee Bowen, (?Ron Davis?) Fred gave his last treasurer’s report. Members expressed their thanks for all Fred has done for us, as well as their enthusiasm and interest in his new position and move to Florida! There were also condolences for the loss of Urban. Lee Bowen put his paper into proposal form: 1. That the steering committee serve as a “planning committee.” 2. That we make an energetic effort to reach out to old members and invite them to return to VF. 3. That we develop a work plan so that there will be a VF “event” of some kind every month beginning in January, 2002. The group voted unanimously and enthusiastically for a separate meeting(s) each month to be arranged and led by Lee in order to accomplish the above goals. Cecelia and Patricia offered to help. Ron Davis had expressed to Patricia liking the “one event per month” idea. At this time no definite plans have been made. {{smile}} Read Mister Lee's resulting message re planning for VF HERE Carolyn Hickey, the new Executive Director of CN, will become our new treasurer. Welcome aboard Carolyn! We meet every 3rd Thursday at 12 NOON. Patricia Reynolds reported on the sale at CRI. Members sold over $25. in postcards. There were raffles for baked goods as well as sales, and individual members felt that the sale was not as prosperous as in ’99. Let’s look for more high traffic places to show and sell! Fred reported that Patty Lawson did a wonderful job representing Vulcan’s Forge in a presentation at Glenhaven. Way to go, Patty!!! If anyone else is interested in giving short presentations about VF, please come to the steering committee on January, 17th at 12 NOON. Sarah Gallant {{Welcome Back!!!}}} is working on the new VF Web Page. So far she has posted work by Ron English, Patty Lawson, Cecil Harry, and Patricia Reynolds. Backgrounds and music have been selected for other members. Sarah would like for each one of us to write about ourselves, to submit written material, and either artwork up to 81/2 x 11 to scan, or good quality photos of our work. The site looks great already! Find it at www.oocities.org\vulcansforgeart\ Cecelia read the VF Mission Statement and reminded those present that within Vulcan’s Forge we put the emphasis on art, not on illness. She mentioned that over the past 5 years, in over 120 meeting, there have been only 3 to 5 outbursts of anger and temper. “We need to congratulate ourselves,” she said. Then she emphasized that Vulcan’s Forge does not want to be even a catalyst for symptomatic or angry behavior. Members shared their thoughts on this, stating the obvious: we can’t change people or events. Most members were appreciative of being reminded of our true goals. Under New Business, Patricia proposed that the 4th Thursday of the month be mailing day for the minutes. She invites EVERYONE to join in and she would like to teach 5 people how to produce labels using mail merge. Mr. Lee could use this time to recruit more volunteers. Cecelia told members that she prefers to work at home because of the overcrowded office at Recovery Initiative. She types minutes, gathers agenda items, creates the agenda, and does phone calling from home. She is also involved in sending members work on line to Sara and, most recently to the Altered States web site. She agreed to call building management to reserve our meeting room for the 2nd and 3rd Thursdays of each month in 2002. Please mark your calendars for the General Meeting on January 10th 2002,1 PM. Please come and bring something to share: ANYTHING! Decisions are made by those who show up!!! Every VF member who attends the Steering Committee Meeting has a full vote on all issues! January 17th 2002, 12 noon. Hope all your activities blend into a relaxation and enjoyment that you may never have experienced until 2002... Happy New 2002 to you! Vulcan's Forge SC minutes respectfully submitted, Cecelia Shooner |
