Introduction
It's the beginning of summer and the end of school- hooray!  Now it's time to plan your annual family vacation!  But instead of making your parents do all the work, you've decided to plan the trip this year.  You've always wanted to take a trip to Africa- a continent with  many countires, exotic animals and fun!  Within your group of 4, you must plan a two-weeks vacation for a family of four; a mother, a father, young boy, and young girl.

Task

In your group, you must organize a family vacation.  You will research the people, climate, economy, culture, geographic features, language, heritage, and leisure activities. Your group will incorporate individual interests and desires into the vacation plans so that each member of the family is satisfied. Compromise will be necessary.

1)  What things should the family take with them?

2)  Where will you stay?

3)  What will you be doing when you get there?

4)  What currency the country you will be visiting is using?  Do you need to change currency?  If you do, what is the present currency exchange rate?

5)  How much will this trip cost in US Dollars?

6)  What will your daily schedule be?

7)  What is the country that you are visiting and what is the country's flag?  (You need to draw the flag; one flag per group).

8)  What animals live in your country?

9)  What vegetation zone does your country cover (Sahara, Savanna, Sahel, or Rain Forest)?

10) What health issues would you be concerned about when you visit Africa?

Process

The steps to completing this project are as follows:

A.    You will be assigned to groups of four.  Within your groups, you will accumulate information about a country   in Africa so you will be able to answer the questions listed above.

B.    Each person will be given a "role" to play based on an individual in the family.  "Roles" are as follows:

Mother: Loves plants life.  She would like to learn about the vegetation in area the family plans to visit.  She plans to take some pictures of some plants she encounter during the vacation.

Father:  Loves to study the climate.  He would like to learn all he can about the climate in Africa so that he can come home and tell his friends and neighbors.

Son:  Loves exotic animals.  He would like to learn what type of animals that live in the vacationing part of Africa.

Daughter:  Loves to meet people.  She plans to learn as much as she can about the culture, language, tradition, and food.
