The Barbelith Circle
The term Barbelith is derived from the Greek for Alien stone. The circle was created as an outstellation situated on a small plateau off to the side of the canal and the Great central way in the city of Leicester.
It was set up aligned to the cardinal points of the compass with the sun rising and setting in its eye line. The main body of the piece is made up of a circle consisting of twelve plinth shaped logs, with the southern most log marking the entrance to the circle from the nearby pathway.
The viewers path through the interior of the circle is marked by two erect log slices (below). These lead the viewer to the  Eastern avenue which leads the viewer out of the circle and faces the rising sun every morning. The Sun follows its path over the circle during the course of the day until it comes to rest in its place marked by a tall thin log erected beyond the western limit of the circle.
The lower below picture shows the view from the Eastern most marker across the circle with the Western marker off in the far distance.
