THEORIES The earliest period of human development and the longest phase of mankind's history is the Paleolithic period or Old Stone Age. It is about duriong the same time period with the Pleistocene geoligic epoch, beginning about 2 million years ago and ending in numerous places between 40,000 and 10,000 years ago. The most valuable remains of the Paleolithic culture are a variety of stone tools, which are used to make important objects such as fire, shelter, clothing, art, and hand-tools. Scientists and archeologists theory of early man is that humans descended from Homo sapiens, or the ape family. Scientists and archeologists modern understanding of human creation is from the findings of paleontology, anthropology, and genetics. Of all primates, considering scientists have a theory that human started from apes, stand rather close similarity to the ape family, such as orangutans, gibbons, gorillas, chimpanzees, and humans, otherwise known as hominiods. Another theory is that the Homo sapiens had human-size feet. This theory is relevant because in 1979, researchers at the Laetoli, Tanzania site in East Africa had discovered footprints in volcanic ash deposits that wer over 3.6 million years old. Scientists such as Mary Leakey and others said that the prints were identical from those of modern humans. R.?H. Tuttle of the University of Chicago was notified of this and confessed, " we are left with somewhat of a mystery." As captivating as this archeological option seems to be, present ideas about human evolution forbid it. |
