Sherrill Area Running Trails |
Directions (Thanks to Mike Femia '05) |
Stone's Trail: Headed toward Route 5 on Betsinger Road, the trailhead is on the left. It is well maintained by landowners but the trailhead can be wet at times. Mostly flat with a couple gradual inclines. The trail parallels Primo Ave and ends in St. Helena's Church parking lot. Robertson Park: From St. Helena's parking lot, cross Park Street and Sherrill Road, cross the ice skating rink near the fire department, and run down the driveway that leads to the minor league baseball field. The trailhead is toward the creek on the left. The trail winds through Robertson Park and is mostly flat. Once you cross the bridge, stay to the right to get to Robertson Road or left to end at the elementary school. St. Helena's Cemetary: The trailhead is in the left rear of the cenetary. It is well maintained, shaded, and dry for the most part. It ends on Route 46. From the end of the trail, turn left to get to the Mount Hope Reservior or right to get to the Old Railroad Trail, about1 1/4 mile down Route 46. Mount Hope Reservior: Turn onto Mount Hope Ave from Route 46. The Reservior entrance is at the top of the hill on the right. The trail encompasses the Reservior. The trail is completely shaded and has few trouble spots. There are several hills ranging from short and steep to long, mild climbs. You can swim in the reservior after your run. Old Railroad: To get to the trail from Route 46, get onto the landfill access road behind hanafin Tire, near the intersection of Route 5 and Route 46. Follow the landfillroad for 800m to get to the trailhead, which is right before a hill and gate on the road. Once on the trail, cross Middle Road and continue until you reach the Sherrill-Kenwood Golf Course. The best spot to get off the trail is the second left turn onto Skinner Road. There is a 200m section of the trail where it is always wet. Getting you shoes wet is unavoidable so plan ahead. CAC Trail: Run behind the CAC Clubhouse, headed toward Betsinger Road to get to the trailhead. The trail parallels east Hamilton Ave and is a long gradual climb with steeper areas. Once you reach the top of the hill, run through the taller grass and along side the edge of the cornfield. Turn left on the tractor path, which leads to east hamilton Ave, not far from Marble Hill Inn. Thurston's Tractor Path: The path is a left turn off of Marble Hill Road about 400m past the Marble Hill Inn. Continue straight ahead into the woods. After leaving the woods make a slight left and run alongside the field toward Route 5. When you reach the treeline, make a left turn through some tall grass. Cross the two bridges and run through the meadow, then the parking lot of the townhouses to reach Betsinger Road. |
