Pick and choose activity students can read as they finish assignments before other students.  Regents Questions, book to read, current events, skill activities, long-term project, etc.  Must be purposeful and paced out.

Questions test concepts and information but vary in difficulty.  Avoids reguritation. Allow students to choose which questions to answer. Example Have to do #1-10, choose 5 from #11-20.

Essential understanding and skills used.  Several versions of information/materials.  Based upon readiness, interest, or class average.  Challenges students.

Allows differentiated products.  Can do different activities. Have due dates and timelines.  Meet regularly with teacher.

Group by ability.  Complete a variety of graphic organizers.  Pair-share type activities.

Pre-assessment necessary.  No need toteach what students already know.  Identify what they need to learn.  May do a K-W-L but a test is more appropriate.  Allows acceleration of curriculum.

Students are not locked into a single group.  Scramble for readiness/interest-challenged and meaningful activities.  Pre-test at the beginning of a unit.  Identify skills then work on skills.

Areas within a class that address different abilities and topics.  Students can rotate through or spend time at only one center that is designed to fit students learning profile.

Studnets work on assignments with teacher given deadlines.  Self-directed learning.
