  LamdaMOO

"LambdaMOO is one of more than 350 text-based virtual realities available via the internet. These virtual spaces are generally known as MUDs, multi-user dungeons, or multi-user dimensions. MOOs (MOO stands for multi-user, object oriented) and MUDs are real-time, interactive conferencing programs, spaces in which many people can carry on conversations at the same time. Unlike some other conferencing spaces, however, MOOs and MUDs are based in physical, spatial metaphors; they are virtual worlds in which to wander". Mnookin

The LambdaMOO is a social MOO where on one particular night in the Living Room, cyber rape and violent acts were done to some of the participants who were in the MOO by a character named Mr.Bungle.  Julian Dibbell contends that "LambdaMOOers are allowed a broad freedom to create--they can describe their characters any way they like, they can make rooms of their own and decorate them to taste, and they can build new objects almost at will".  The "broad freedom" that Dibbell discusses enables individuals like Mr.Bungle to participate in virtual misconduct. Cyberspace gives individuals endless amounts of freedom to indulge themselves in their imagination and fantasies.
