Bayfield Wisconsin

Main street in Bayfield

The first weekend in June my girlfriend and I had planned to getaway to the town of Bayfield located on Lake Superior in Northern Wisconsin. Our first priority was to figure out where we were going to stay since there were quite a few Bed & Breakfasts and hotels in the area to choose from. After checking the the numerous brochures we got we picked The Red Raspberry Inn due to it's location, price and gourmet breakfast, and once we were there I knew we made the right choice. We took off early Friday morning and were in Bayfield by about 1:30 checking in w/ Carol & Jon at the Red Raspberry. Once settled and unpacked we headed out to Cornucopia which is also along the lake shore, but a little more north. We bummed around there for awhile taking pictures of the post office and lake shore then grabbed a bite to eat and checked out a few art shops. By this time it was close to 9:00 so we headed home becasue we were dead tired.

The next morning breakfast was served at 8:30 and boy what a spread it was! Quiche, fresh bagels and muffins, apple cider, coffee, tea, you name it. With a belly full of food we headed off for a 3 hour tour by boat of the Apostle Islands were we got to see some of the sea caves and light houses out there. Once back on shore we went thru a few of the shops, got a bite to eat and checked out some of the more scenic areas in town. Later in the afternoon we drove back to Cornucopia to hike out to the sea caves there. Now this was suppose to be just a 2 mile hike, but it seemed like the hike from hell! There were lots of ups and downs, but once at the sea caves it was worth it. In retrospect it would have been a lot cooler if we would have rented a canoe and got right into the caves, but what can you do. Back in town once more, we got some dinner and were so tired out from the day we were in bed by 9:00.

The next day Carol had prepared waffles w/ sliced strawberries and whipped cream, bacon, muffins and banana bread for us and it really hit the spot. We took the ferry over to Madeline Island, but because it was so early in the season and it was a Sunday not much was open. Had the weather been a little nicer we could have rented bikes and gone over to the state park, but since it was cold and windy we took the next ferry back and headed home. After the long weekend it was sure hard getting back to work and we already made plans to head back up some time soon!
