We left early Saturday morning and planned on bumming around in the towns on our way to the Lodge in Sister Bay. What a difference a few months make! Door County was pretty much deserted and a lot of the stores and restaurnats were closed. We stopped in the super pimp grocery store in Egg Harbor and a few other stores in town then planned on eating at Shipwrecked Brewpub, but that was closed. Our second choice was The Sister Bay Cafe which is open year round, just our luck though, they were closed that week for remodeling! We ended up back in Fish Creek eating at a local diner that wasn't half bad. After lunch we went to a few stores and everything was pretty much picked over. I did find some Columbia hiking boots, but decided to wait to see what else I could find. We stopped into Peninsula State Park and I took some pics from the observation tower. We would have hiked around a bit, but it was just too cold, the climb up the tower was cold enough for me! We checked into the Scandivavian Lodge and our room was really nice, a decent sized TV, in room Jacuzi and a fireplace to boot! There was also a hot tub and sauna by the pool so we put our suits on a hopped in for awhile to get the chill out of our bones. After that we got ready for dinner and went to Al Johnson's Swedish restaurant which has the goats on the roof is a big draw in the area and . I knew we were in for trouble when I saw the 70s style rug and molded plastic chairs from back in the day. Kari got the Swedish meatballs and I got a Swedish steak and neither one of us liked our meal, especially after what we paid for it. After dinner we just went back and went to bed.
The next morning it was snowing a bit when we got up and after we packed and checked out we went to the White Gull in for breakfast and it was easily the best meal we had all weekend. On our way out of Door County we stopped at an outdoor gear shop and I finally found some hiking boots that I liked. Even at the sale price they were a bit more than I wanted to pay, but they were comfortable as well as being waterproof and breathable. I didn't think I would find something that fit those criteria at a lower price so broke down and bought them. So all in all it was a pretty good trip.
