Germanfest '97
I was down in Milwaukee this past weekend (7/27) for the annual Germanfest
which takes place on the Sumerfest grounds. This is the largest german festival
in the whole of the US, if you're in the area and have never gone, make plans for
next year, it's a blast! I went down with two of my friends Eric and John
(shown in the picture) and John's parents were elected prince and princess for
their German club so we got a lot of freebies. Of course the first thing we did was
grab a beer and get some food, I opted for the sauerbraten with a side of spaetzel.
We strolled around the grounds looking for John's parents and noticed that Chikeria
was playing. These guys are an awesome show band from Bavaria who really get the crowd going.
It was not long after they started playing when the schlangtanze song came on, a personal
fave of mine. After we found John's parents I started talking with some actual
German sailors and they started teaching us some "choice" words.
At 10:00 they had the fireworks and by this time we were getting a little verucht(crazy). It was
at this time that I wanted to buy one of the "hill billy" hats I had seen people wearing so we went
to the Markt Platz and I took Eric's and John's picture with a cute girl and older lady.
Chikeria was playing again and when we got there the people were dancing on picnic tables!
I took another picture of them, and in typical drunk fashion it didn't turn out so good.
Before I knew it the night was over, and already I can't wait until next year!
