Oktoberfest
Me, John & Eric
Once again, it’s another German adventure w/ Eric and John. This time it was Oktoberfest held the last three weekends on September at The Bavarian Inn in Milwaukee. Our day started at 5:00pm when we arrived at the Bavarian Inn and Olde Heidelburg park where it’s held. They have a huge outdoor pavilion which holds a few thousand people where the bands play. Picnic tables are arranged in rows and everyone brings table clothes to mark their territory. First things first so we decided to get some beer, there was a special if you bought the real deal full liter glass mugs and we decided to go with those. Besides the fact the beer was cheaper for refills in the stein, you just looked alot cooler lugging one of those around. Sooner or later we started to get hungry and there was no shortage of food here, your basic bratwurst and other sausage all the way up to roast chicken dinner plates, they had it all. And desserts everywhere you looked as well. The first band to come on was The Alte Kammeraden Band which is a 20 some piece traditional band. While they were good, everyone was waiting for The Johnny Hoffman Trio with special guest Willie Wesel to really get things going. Johnny Hoffman started around 8:30 with some traditional favourites, then moved on to songs like the chicken dance to get the crowds dancing and finished with the snake dance which is like a congo line all around the hall. About this time we were all feeling pretty good after having a few liters of beer and my friend John grabbed this auxiliary cop girl’s hand to get her to dance and this other little weasel rent-a-cop half John’s grabs his arm because he must have thought John was up to something. Needless to say John was not pleased and let the weasel know about. After that we were being watched intently by the power hungry cop-wannabes and when we left a group of 5 followed us out to have a talk with us. There was a new guy in the group who was really going out of his way to be a jerk and trying to get John to admit to something he didn’t do. Finally they let us go, because they obviously didn’t have anything on us and we decided not to press our luck and headed home. Even though the rent-a-cops were a bunch of weasels, it still didn’t ruin the awesome time we had!
